Lovely restful spot
Amanda Busch, South Africa - 04 January 2016
Wow what a nice place! Very impressed from the warm welcome at reception, the spacious rooms, beautiful peaceful outdoor spaces and hearty breakfast.  A child-friendly hotel that makes you feel right at home. We loved it and will definitely return.
Needs Refurbishment

Not what it promises. Definitely not for a business trip. Fittings and fixtures are old and worn out.

What a beautiful, romantic place this is...magical!!
The Shire - indeed!

Quaint, characterful place which holds a surprise around every corner. Well equipped, clean and friendly. Everything you want for an overnight (or longer) in Bloem. Quaint pub onsite.

Our family had a wonderful stay at the Hobbit Boutique Hotel. The staff are really friendly and the service and accomodation was excellent. A big "Thank You" for making our stay in Bloemfontein a very memorable one!

Baie dankie vir die baie besonderse en spesiale naweek in die hotel! Ons beveel graag die hotel aan vir enige persoon wat privaatheid en rustigheid wil hê. Die ontbyte was heerlik en die verskeidenheid verfrissend.
How Hobbit got five stars I do not know.
Chris Blignaut, South Africa - 08 October 2012
Positive: The personell are friendly. The breakfast is good. Negative: We stayed for four nights in the room Legolas which is dirty. The bathroom was never cleaned. The window sills are filthy and the paintwork is third class. The carpet is not vacuumed and the paintwork on the skirtings are either not done or in a very bad condition. Service after breakfast, e.g. to receive friends/colleagues is not possible. One star perhaps.
Warm hospitality

What a difference from the ordinary run of the mill overnight accommodation! Herman proved to be the perfect host and on arrival went out of his way to make us feel at home. He reccomended a splended Restaurant within walking distance from the HOBBIT, the suite was very comfortable, cosy and clean and we specially enjoyed the cosy historical ambience of the old building. A special pleasure was the excellent breakfast, the pristine, crisp white table linen and the topclass coffee! One aspect which should be included on the website, is the fact that older people will find the narrow staircase to the upperfloor rooms and suites, difficult to handle and should therefore be given the choice of downstairs accommodation as well.
Not up to standard
Chris van Wyk, South Africa - 18 May 2012
The room was not up to standard. No shower. Only a small bath. Went to another place and forfeited my deposit. Will not recommend this to anyone.

I stayed here for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Great atmosphere, awesome bed and breakfast. First choice if I ever got back to Bloemfontein again!

We had a lovely time at the Hobbit and would recommend it to anybody! The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and it felt like home away from home. Will definitely be back!
