great experiance
onica mashatola, South Africa - 04 January 2017
The Mountain lodge is privately situated with the view of the mountains and animals that are in the lodge. The owner Mr Giles made sure that we feel safe and encouraged us to take a walk to the rock pool, and we had great fun and felt refreshed after spending the whole day in the rock pool that is situated high in the mountains.
Rudolph Oelofse, South Africa - 07 December 2016
This was an awesome experience, an absolute great place to stay, especially if you want to rest and just chill, an excellent facility, we loved it out there.

We spent 3 nights in the Mountain Lodge.
Absolutely fantastic! Had wonderful hikes and enjoyed the splendid views and silence.
Thanks to Giles for your hospitality.
An extremely pleasant retreat.
Christine Harries, South Africa - 27 April 2016
We spent 3 nights at the River Lodge. It was a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of our normal lives. The silence(other than that of Nature's glorious sounds) was intoxicating. The chalet is very comfortable. Mosquito netting over the windows would have allowed us to leave them open at night but this was a minor problem.
We shall certainly return...and for a longer stay!
Absolutely Beautiful
Johfrey Mance, South Africa - 26 January 2016
We stayed at the Tranquility Lodge for the weekend and it met all our expectations. This lodge is perfect for the romantic weekend away. It has beautiful scenery and wildlife but at the same time perfectly private. I would definitely recommend this as a weekend getaway for couples.

we Enjoyed the very beautiful neat, comfortable, romantic and fully equipped tree house lodge. The Jacuzzi was awesome. Enjoyed the peace and quite, privacy, nature, lovely farm and hike to the rock pools. Will definitely be back.
Wonderful Stay
Ben Espach, South Africa - 12 January 2016
This is the right place to just relax. It was wonderful to be so close to nature. No TV and living conditions are environmental friendly with Solar Power and Gas Geyser, Stove and fridge. We will go there again when our batteries needs a charge.
Quite and tranquil
Craig Petzer, South Africa - 04 January 2016

Beautiful view of the Buffelspoort dam from bush lodge. Giles really does go the extra mile to make sure you are happy and have every thing you require in order to have a memorable stay.

We unfortunately had to leave after one day as our house sitter had a family emergency. Giles offered us a extra 2 day stay as he managed to fill our spot for that duration, outstanding service.

A little piece of paradise
Julie Zulch, South Africa - 19 November 2015
My husband & I recently had the pleasure of spending a weekend at River Lodge (one of the 5 lodges available at Mamagalie Mountain Lodge). We had the most peaceful, relaxing weekend we've had in years! The lodge is extremely private & really provided the "break from the world" that we needed. The lodge has everything you need in terms of linen, crockery, cutlery, etc. & is beautifully maintained & clean. The bathroom is just stunning - no blinds or curtains required! The outside shower is an added bonus. The lodge has it's own private splash pool & braai area. The bird-life is abundant, and we spotted vervet monkeys & a small buck on our walk around the farm. Great value for money! We will definitely be back :)
Great relaxing weekend
Marc de Meuse, South Africa - 16 November 2015
What a wonderful private weekend getaway. Did not see a soul for the whole weekend. If you are looking for a romantic getaway far from the hustle and bustle of every day life, this is the place to be. Time literally stands still.
Absolutely Fantastic
Roland Johannes, South Africa - 23 March 2015
This is definitely the best chilled weekend out of the city I had in a while. It was worth it. So private, so secure absolutely fantastic.

Perfect Place to recharge the "batteries" in a beautiful setting. Highly Recommended.
Teresa du Plooy, South Africa - 22 December 2014
We spent our sixth anniversary at the Lodge. We had a fantastic time with all the privacy you could wish for. We loved every minute of it and we are blessed with new memories to treasure for a lifetime. Thank you so very much!
Best of the Bush
Tasj van Dyk, South Africa - 04 December 2014
If it is a secluded break you are after, Mamagalie is where you need to be. Stunning Lodges, breath-taking scenery and raw bush that is so well preserved with minimal human fingerprints. Giles is an amazing host that truly does go the extra mile for his guest but above that he has a vast knowledge and visible passion for taking care of both animals and their natural habitat. Thank you so much Giles, we had an awesome time and will definitely be back, just longer this time. PS: They sell jam at the office, I have actually considered driving back all the way from Kempton Park to buy some more.
Lindsay Grant, South Africa - 10 November 2014
Just to let you know , we have just returned from our weekend at Mamagalie Lodge. For a relaxing do nothing break, it was great. The walk to the rock pools takes about an hour plus, but most enjoyable. We will definitely go back again.
Tim Leher, South Africa - 20 October 2014
Thanks Giles for a lovely time. The lodge is private, beautiful and we had a wonderfully relaxing week. We will definitely be back.
Close to home hide away
jolanda schoeman, South Africa - 12 October 2014
It was the most relaxed few days away from home. We enjoyed our little splash pool and without television me and my kids bond and chat a lot. Bathing was another experience. Lots and lots of bubble bath, glass of ice cold mountain water and the view of nature! This experience was truly a blessing. Thank you, Giles and Melanie. We will come again.
Awesome escape from reality
Angie McCullough, South Africa - 01 September 2014
It was wonderful, Giles made us feel very welcome. The lodge was beautiful and so calm and peaceful. It was a lovely break which recharges your batteries, will definitely go back.
Absolutely Wonderful!
Dawn Walker, South Africa - 30 June 2014
We spent our 35th Wedding Anniversary in Forest Lodge. Absolutely perfect if you desire lovely accomodation, peace, quiet and to be surrounded by trees. It was wonderful to be able to totally relax and switch off from the stresses of today's world. Well done Giles and Melanie, you have the most wonderful getaway. Namaste. PS. The Farm Shop sells the most delicious homemade produce, you must buy some!
Not worth 4 stars
jaco , South Africa - 08 June 2014
The scenery is very beautiful and worth a thousand words. But was like you are staying in a prison with the big bush of keys, of which was not clearly marked so you stood for a while going one by one till you found the right one. Not enough warm blankets for a cold night, the fire place was good but if you don't bring enough wood of your own you are stuffed. Did not feel the warm welcome they say on their site and would feel scared to ask for extra wood because you are afraid that the delivery cost is more that the wood itself. It will be a good stay in the summer when you don't need a warm shower.
Establishment's Response:
Yes there is a big bunch of keys but it is certainly not difficult to master. When you went off the farm on Saturday morning you will recall that you forced the wrong key into the main gate thereby breaking it off, I came down and opened for you using the correct key on the bunch. However your comments are noted and we will try and come up with a colour code scheme. If you recall from your initial booking you mailed me to say you had booked the wrong dates and asked me to transfer them for you, this I did at no charge despite being within my rights to do so. At the same time I suggested that you should look at the Forest Lodge as an option as it was more suitable in winter for a baby, you specifically declined that option. In the Bush Lodge there is a winter duvet, heavy comforter and an additional blanket. We feel that this is sufficient under normal conditions but at no point did you indicate that you would like any more and this of course does not give us the opportunity to assist you. In respect of the wood: We offer to deliver wood for you prior to arrival, with no delivery charge, the staff take this up when they go to make up the lodges on the day of arrival, you chose not to utilise this offer. Why do we say we will charge for deliveries? Well, there is a very real cost involved in terms of time and use of vehicle to deliver. We are in the hospitality trade but we also have a value to our time and for us to drop what we are doing, go and load wood and thereafter deliver has a recoverable cost, you did not enquire about the delivery cost or ask to collect from the farm store at any point so to say that this service is unaffordable is devoid of truth. In respect of the “warm” welcome I can only say that in discussion with my wife who checked you in, indicates that she spent over 30 minutes with you to take you to the lodge, show you where everything is and generally discussing security and other relevant details for your stay. She is somewhat confused as to how she came across as unfriendly and perhaps you could be more specific? In respect of the “cold water” I am again only made aware of this after your departure, if you give us the opportunity to rectify something during your stay we are always happy to do so. I ensured that the gas geyser was on for the weekend as we felt that the solar heater would not be sufficient given the weather prediction. My staff are instructed to test this and they reported to me that it was in good working order, I will go and inspect it myself to see if that is the case, I do however reiterate, and Melanie reinforced this at check in, that if something is not to your liking during your stay to please contact us, you made no such calls and thereby again deny us the opportunity to assist you. I personally think that you received exceptional service and value for money, even when you triggered the alarm accidentally at 3 am, I drove up to ensure that you were OK, surely this reflects a premium that we place on our guests? On departure we had a friendly, long, wide ranging conversation where you had the opportunity to mention some of the “problems” you encountered and did not do so, instead choosing to place a damning comment on the SafariNow website, surely you give someone the opportunity to rectify what is not to your liking before placing such comments on a public forum? In closing, please let me assure you that we strive to offer exceptional accommodation at very affordable prices, and while we try to ensure that everything is perfect for your stay, it may be that circumstances beyond our control dictate otherwise. I have however always personally attended to any faults that may develop during a stay both promptly and in a friendly manner and at all times of the day and night. Almost 50% of our business is returning guests and we are generally full 4-6 weeks in advance throughout the year, I would like to think then, that your comments are an exception rather than the norm. We would appreciate any constructive ideas you may have that would assist us in improving the standard of our accommodation.
Kim O'Hagan, South Africa - 30 April 2014
Lovely stay in gorgeous surroundings. Well maintained and very relaxed.
Michael Goatham, South Africa - 08 April 2014
Excellent accommodation and facilities.
River Lodge - peaceful and private!
JEANE REX, South Africa - 17 February 2014
Very friendly hosts and a warm welcome! Cosy cottage - thumbs-up for sliding doors, windows, outside shower and braai! A nice view, but not overlooking the small stream. Unfortunately the rock pool, one of the main attractions for us, was filled with sand from the mountain. We enjoyed the privacy, silence and being surrounded by bush and a beautiful big old Wild Olive tree!
Home away from home

Great place to unwind
Goedele Louwagie, South Africa - 27 June 2012
We had a fantastic time at Mamagalie Lodge. Peaceful, lovely, serene environment. Spacious comfortable accommodation. We had booked the bush lodge, but because it was cold the owners offered to accommodate us in the bigger and more luxurious mountain lodge at no extra cost. I guess that's what's called "customer service"! We will be back.
Very peaceful
Maritza Kilian, South Africa - 19 June 2012
Was a great getaway for me and my hubby. Thank you - we will visit again.
Marlien Barnard, South Africa - 09 April 2012

Herman Steyn, South Africa - 19 March 2012
This is the second time that my wife and I took a break at Mamagalie and the experience is still amazing. It's private and the closest you can get to nature. Is you want to take a break from the busy everyday life and just recharge, Mamagalie will be the place to go. You can't get closer to nature than here and you will find a new appreciation for nature and what it has to offer.
Forest Lodge
CHRISTO MAHNE, South Africa - 06 March 2012
Forest lodge
Alae du Toit, South Africa - 07 February 2012
A most relaxing weekend. No other people and only the natural outdoors. We caught glimpses of baboons on our walk to the Rock Pools. Spacious and luxurious bathroom with large windows that gives the feeling of bathing outdoors.
Restful and so private
Heather Frankiskos, South Africa - 11 January 2012
The forest lodge was everything it claimed to be - a complete getaway from the rat-race without TV and forced to chat, play cards, read and relax. It was comfortable and well stocked with every basic essential. The sky lights make the dancing forest canopy an absolute treat and the lightening quite spectacular.
Very relaxing getaway!
Sam Eva, South Africa - 27 December 2011
Mamagalie was a wonderful getaway for a couple of days. We were able to relax and enjoy nature. This is the perfect place for some peace and quiet. I would definitely recommend it and will be back soon.
Most tranquil place on earth
Karen None, South Africa - 14 November 2011
A little piece of heaven on earth. Cliche I know, but it is amazing. Tucked away in between the mountains and trees lies Mamagalie Lodge. Whether you are an outdoor-hiking person or a stay-in-and-read person, this lodge is perfect. Whatever your fancy, you are guaranteed not to see another soul for days. The ultimate getaway for romance, adventure and soul searching. And if that is not enough, the wildlife, birds, monkeys and clouds will wipe your cares away.
Nadine Apsey, South Africa - 24 October 2011
The Bush Lodge at Mamagalie is absolutely stunning with the most amazing views. We didn't want to leave and can't wait to go back!

My siter Zandi, my friend Pinky and our kids had a wonderful and memorable quiet weekend. The manager,Giles, was so helpful. He was our friend to call at any time. What we loved most about the place was the crime free area. Wow, it's a small haven. Will definitely come back for more days. Thank you so much.
Peaceful, beautiful and comfortable
Anonymous, South Africa - 22 March 2011
We had the pleasure of staying at the Mountain Lodge. What a great and relaxing place. Location is stunning with a beautiful view. Giles is friendly and helpful, and the overall experience was great. The lodge is comfortable with good beds and nice linen. Huge, fully stocked kitchen, nice bathrooms, and comfortable chairs. The TV is upstairs by the bunk beds making it easy to entertain the kids. Main deck makes an amazing place to entertain and the upstairs deck is perfect for an evening drink and morning coffee. Daily cleaning is a good bonus for a self-catering lodge. I would highly recommend Mamagalie Mountain Lodge to anyone that is looking for a peacful and relaxing getaway. I look forward to coming back again soon.

Mamagalie Bush Lodge - Awesome
Simon Hardy, United Kingdom - 21 June 2010
The Bush Lodge was awesome. The peace and tranquillity was just as described. This truly is a wonderful place to get away from it all, put your feet up and relax. The lodge has all the facilities expected of a good standard. We were particularly impressed with the welcome we received and the info available from Giles, who is an excellent host. Once you are there, you are left to your own devices to enjoy your stay in whatever manner you please which was great. Couldn't recommend it higher, would definitely stay again. On the same property is the Mountain Lodge which looked like a fantastic place to go and relax (or party!) with 10 or so friends. Great stuff!!!

Magic at Mamagalie
Delcia Richter - 13 March 2009
Our two grown up children and my husband and I spent a fantastic three nights at two of the lodges at Mamagalie Mountain Lodge. The favourite of course, was the Bush Lodge, with it's part tented bedroom and lounge area, and the view over the valley and dam! I can truly say that I felt this was outstanding value for money! The attention to detail made it an extremely comfortable self catering break! The whole ambiance of the lodge was magical! We loved it, and if we were local, would be there regularly - still, it's a definite on our return when we go to SA for our daughter's graduation in a few years time! Highly, highly recommend it - absolute tranquility for you to recharge your batteries, and sense nature's miracles around you!
A Great Escape to Nature
Pieter Brand, South Africa - 03 March 2009
Form the moment we arrived we felt welcome. A great secluded place surrounded by the sounds of nature. I'll recommend it to anyone looking to get away for a peaceful break away from everyday stress. If you plan on taking a hike up to the upper rock pools... take some proper hiking gear. Well worth the effort. Thanks for a great break.

It was to be a late X-mas spent with loved ones we have not seen for a while,, little did we know it would be the best X-mas spent with loved ones - being so close to God and His beautiful creations. A time to remember memories never to be forgotten. Thank you for having us. May God keep us safe to see you again and again and again.

Mamagalie Bush Lodge
Louis Roux, South Africa - 09 February 2009
This was one of the most memorable weekends we had in a long time. The lodge is exquisite and the view absolutely awesome. The extreme privacy of the lodge makes it an ultimate weekend break-away destination. We still wanted to explore the whole Magalies Meander but never left the lodge. Even though the road to the lodge is pure 4x4 route and not a BMW sedan like ours our would rather borrow a vehicle next time than change the road as it only compliments the whole idea of privacy and exclusivity. We will definitely return again and again. It was great to hear all the night sounds and not worry like we do in the city. Louis and Hermien
Experience of a lifetime

We had a splendid stay, a place to definitely be recommended. Thanks for the hospitality, hope to be back very soon!
Peaceful getaway.
Mishka Bhorat, South Africa - 06 July 2008
What a peaceful getaway in the middle of the bush, with plenty of beautiful birds, squirrels a few buck and surprisingly quite a number of different trees and shrubs. We were privy to lovely sunsets every evening, and a toilet and bathroom that gives you a natural view! Our host Giles was very helpful - thank you. The only problem was the winding dirt road in and out to the Lodge; it is quite tricky.
Just what I needed!!
Johan Rossouw, South Africa - 23 June 2008
Clean, safe with beautiful surroundings!! Will be back during summer time!!

Heaven on Earth
Tanya Smallman, South Africa - 13 May 2008
The Mamagali luxury tented Lodge was by far the most wonderful place that I have ever stayed at, in and out of SA. I have never experienced such cleanliness, tranquillity and hospitality, ever. We had the most awesome time at Mamagali and will most definitely return, but this time for a longer stay. We have told all our family and friends about "Heaven on Earth". I cannot wait to go back! To Giles and Mel, Thank You for your enormous effort in running and maintaining this little paradise and making your guests so comfortable, we salute you!
Francois Ferreira, South Africa - 24 April 2008

Just what the doctor ordered
Rod Gravelet-Blondin, South Africa - 31 March 2008
The objective was a weekend away as a family (with adult married children) and Mamagalie was ideal - extremely well suited, relaxing, peaceful and just what the doctor ordered. Weekend was a bit short for the amount of nothingness we did! Thanks to Giles and all involved. Not really a traveller with teenage children, but that is bout the closest - although still romantic and wishing to be retired and cruising!
The lodge was awesome.
Johann van de Merwe, South Africa - 26 March 2008
Mamagalie was just the break we needed to unwind and relax away from city life. Private, spacious and well equipped as well as being in a really beautiful part of the world. Giles and family were great and we would definitely recommend a stay with them whenever you get a chance.

Freezing holidays!!
Losseau Albert, Mozambique - 09 July 2007
We spent an exellent time at the lodge, but for people from Maputo this was a freezing experience!! Maybe you should mention this in your description for people living outside South Africa that the outside braai and swimming pools/pools in the river might not be the best unwinding experience during winter time.... . Otherwise the whole experience was great, very comfortable and very nice people!!!
Family holiday in June 2007

Mamagalie Mountain Lodge
Anonymous - 26 October 2006
We had a wonderful time at the Mamagalie Bush Lodge, although short. It was so nice to be out of the busy and noisy environment. We are planning to visit the lodge again sometime early 2007 for a longer stay.
Our dream weekend away from the everyday madness.
Diane Van Tienhoven, South Africa - 23 October 2006
If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and take in what nature has to offer, then this is definitely the place to go. The view and scenery is spectacular, and it has more than everything you could ever need to enjoy your vacation. We spent two nights there, which I wish were longer. And we will definitely return and bring all our friends. There is also a fantastic walk to the rock pools that you can do, we took a picnic basket up there and spent a lovely day in the sun with the relaxing sound of the stream flowing past us. All in all we had a wonderful time there and would love to go again. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommending Mamagalie Mountain Lodge to anyone. Thank you for helping us to make wonderful memories together.
