About Twyfelfontein Country Lodge

The Twyfelfontein area, being a very vulnerable and delicate ecosystem, is renowned for some of the best examples of Bushman paintings and Rock Engravings in Southern Africa. Twyfelfontein Country Lodge is situated 100 km's west of Khorixas, Damaraland, Namibia. Is 260 km's north-northeast of Henties Bay, and 5 km's from historic rock-art site. Walking, Day Scenic Drives, Scenic Flights, Swimming Pool.

Interesting rock formations and the remainder of prehistoric volcanic action can be seen among the most prominent geographic features including the Organ Pipes, Burnt Mountain, Doros Crater and the Petrified Forest. The fauna and flora of Damaraland is typical of the Pro-Namib region and plant species include the magnificent Welwitschia, Moringa and a variety of the Commiphora species. The Desert adapted Elephant, Rhinoceros, Giraffe, Springbok, and Ostrich include some of the wildlife which can be found living in total harmony with the community and the communal farming activities of the Uibasen Twyfelfontein Conservancy.

Twyfelfontein boasts 56 en-suite double rooms, reception, lounge, curio shop, open dining room, bar and swimming pool. In construction utmost care was taken to reduce the visual impact on the environment and to blend into the mountainside with the use of thatch roofs, natural stone and paint colors toning in with the surrounding rock formations.

Day excursions may include flights over the area by small plane, walks, and/or guided safaris into the surrounds. Beautiful sunsets and endless vistas relaxes body, mind and spirit. Among the local fauna, none is more fascinating than the elusive desert-adapted elephant, Loxodonta Africans, which permanently occupies the desert during the driest periods. These elephants walk up to 130 kilometres between water holes, covering up to 70km a day and sometimes drinking only every fourth day.

Unfriendly staff - very untypical of Namibians. The receptionist could hardly greet us. No fridge in the chalets in an area where the temperatures are sweltering. No aircon which made it almost impossible to sleep in the evenings. No plug in the basin - reported - not fixed and no attempt to do so. One felt that the staff were doing their guests a favour. Intermittent WiFi and only in the reception area. Would not recommend anyone stay at the resort and will never return. And too boot - expensive for the what you 'did not get'.

The rooms were good but not great, the food was good but not great and the service was good but not great: some very friendly personnel, some very unfriendly personnel. All of this would have been not a problem if this place wasn't as expensive as it is: simply very, very bad value for money.
