About Mara Farm

On the outskirts of Fouriesburg, close to the Lesotho border and deep in the heart of the Eastern Free State highlands of South Africa you will find a special guest farm, Mara Farm. This beautiful homestead is in the final stages of conversion into comfortable, homely and affordable accommodation and events venue for groups and individual parties. Bookings for the main house are open for August 2011, but the first self-catering cottage accommodating four guests in two bedrooms is already available. Mamatela is now the new owner and host and with more than 10 years in the hospitality industry she will make your stay comfortable. If you require a home cooked meal, she has more than 20 years of catering and she will make you a delicious African meal or any of your choice. Small functions, picnic baskets, themed dinners and parties are expertly catered. Mamatela invites you to contact her to discuss your menu requirements. If you want an African experience of slaughtering an animal and feasting to it that also can be arranged as we have sheep and free range chickens on the farm. We are however still sensitive to those animal lovers and all we do is done in a professional and considerate manner to animals and animal lovers. Mara overlooks the majestic Maluti Mountains and our view tower is the ideal spot to drink in the beauty of valleys and sandstone precipices over a champagne breakfast, or leisurely sundowners after a day of exploring this fascinating region. Clarens, en-route to the Golden Gate National Park, is a 30 minute drive as is Bethlehem and Ficksburg, home of the Cherry Festival. The closest border post to Lesotho is just 8km away making Mara the perfect base for visitors to this fascinating mountain kingdom. The Afriski ski resort and Katse Dam is an easy day trip for those not able to overnight in Lesotho. if you require a 4 x 4 car to Lesotho we can rent out our JEEP WRANKLER to enthusiasts who want to enjoy the scenery, or you can be transported to Lesotho while enjoying the views. We look forward to welcoming you to our special corner of this remarkable country.

We spent a wonderful, relaxing week at Mara Farm over Christmas. Enjoyed some lovely walks, amazing stargazing, and many happy hours under the cool thatched lapa!

The house is a lovely large farmhouse, with more than enough space for a large family to spend time together. We enjoyed the lapa area to braai and the children enjoyed the large grassed area to play. The negative side is that the house definitely needs a good spring clean. The large kitchen is lovely to work in, but everything had to be washed before it could be used. Lots of cobwebs and dust in the house.
