About Queens Hotel

The Queen's Hotel is an oasis of colonial elegance and wired modern convenience in the heart of Oudtshoorn - the capital of the beautiful semi-arid Klein Karoo.

Finished in 1880, this grand dame of South African hoteliery has recently been restored to her full original beauty and continues to offer sumptuous accommodation, service and dining that is reminiscent of a bygone era but driven by dynamic modern hotel management.

The Queen's can accommodate 82 people in our 40 non-smoking rooms (Double, Twin, Family and Deluxe). All have WiFi, individually remote-controlled air-conditioning, satellite TV, direct dial telephone, clock radio, work desk, safe, coffee/tea facilities, communal lounge area and bathrooms with overhead/separate shower & bath, towels, toiletries & luxury linen. We have one room fitted with grab rails, but all rooms are wheelchair-accessible and the hotel has an elevator between floors.

Breakfast (included in room rate) is served in the breakfast room: 7:30 to 10:00

Dinner is served at the Colony Restaurant (not included).

The Colony Restaurant - fine dining for young and old

The upstairs Colony Restaurant offers superb meals for young and old and an excellent wine menu, 7 days a week. The menu and specials are unmistakably South African, featuring signature dishes by head chef Rickus Engelbrecht and his team.

For parties of more than 10 people, we can offer a set menu. Groups of more than 20 can order a full buffet dinner.

Seasonal opening times; Summer (Dec to Feb): 18:00 to 23:00 and Winter (Jun to Aug): 17:00 to 22:00.

Special diet requests: Vegetarian meals available on our menu. We can cater for gluten-free, lactose-intolerant, diabetic and any other dietary requests.

Café Brûlé - free WiFi and the best coffee in town. Café Brûlé provides a semi-enclosed street-side European café setting with in-house bakery, light meals and coffee shop. Situated in the centre of town next to the old sandstone masterpiece of the old Boys' High School, the eatery has won a loyal local following for its all-day fix of excellent coffee, food and Internet. Light meals from 07:00 to 17:00, freshly baked bread for sale every day and dish-up-&-weigh buffet on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays between 12:00 and 14:00. Other fresh product like rusks, cakes, olives, jam, olive oils etc are available as well.

Wedding Venues: Wedding Venue on the premises, enquire for more details.

Conference Venues: The conference room can be reconfigured to accommodate parties and groups from 2 to 120 people in a comfortable working environment. There is security and abundant parking.

The room was attractive and clean and the dinner at the Colony Restaurant superb. Clearer instructions for the TV channels could be helpful.

First the positives: friendly, helpful and responsive staff - when we arrived, the bed side lights were not working - they provided immediate response to fix the problem. However, in the morning the bathroom light did not work - it flashed for a moment then off and on flickering - difficult to shave / wash etc (no windows - a little pokey bathroom for a 4 star hotel!). Having a shower in the bath was messy because the outlet was blocked and the bath filled up rapidly. Now that is the sort of problem you cannot (or do not want) to report while in the middle of getting washed and dressed, so I...

A really wonderful old world style hotel. Beautiful marble floors throughout... the reception were very accommodating on ur early arrival & helped us promptly with a room. The rooms are very comfortable & have beautiful white lacy linen. Loved the tea & coffee in the rooms with REAL milk. On our leaving the hotel gave us a room for an hour so that our kids could relax before driving home. Would definitely recommend & stay again.
