I loved everything about my stay at this backpackers and this amazing little town. The Karoo Lamb provided wonderful dinners, and if you needed anything, a quick walk down to chat to Katrin was all you needed to do. Ended my stay with a gig by the Akkedis band in their Ramstal pub. Amazing experience. I will be back!

We stayed in the Owlhouse Backpackers overnight and enjoyed our stay in Nieu-Bethesda. It was everything you would expect from a backpackers, basic but comfortable. Perfect for a group of students or friends looking for affordable accommodation, but if you require a bit more comfort then "backpacking" isn't for you. It got a little cold (being Winter), but there were plenty of extra blankets in the room. Just make sure to bring your own towels. Go for the lamb shank at the Karoo Lamb restaurant nearby!

Great place. One dorm and a twin with good facilities and reasonably priced. We had a great stay in this lovely little village. Quiet, but that's part of the charm. The guidance provided by the owners at the Karoo Lamb restaurant is very helpful to and many activities are advertised. Go visit.

The Water Tower accommodation is not for the faint hearted: it features an Eco-loo and a precarious step ladder to the bedroom.... But if you are able-bodied this is a real adventure! We loved it and found the accommodation comfortable, clean and warm, with a wonderful first storey deck for sundowners. Live on the edge... Exit those comfort zones and above all: if you want five star luxury, stay in the city.

Compassberg is 2502m high. From Ganora it takes about 1 hour todrive to the back from where you can start climbing. If you do not have a 4X4 it takes about 3 hours up and 3 hours down. With a 4X4 you can get further up the mountain to a point...

Tubby is a little railway inspector’s cart formerly used to inspect the district’s rail tracks. Today it is used to take visitors on two-hour trips up Lootsberg. The views are lovely and there are opportunities to spot kudu and smaller antelope on...
