About Mount Serene

Mount Serene is situated on the slopes of the Magaliesberg Mountains, about 30 kilometre from the town of Magaliesburg on the R24; less than 100 kilometre from Johannesburg or Pretoria.

There is no TV. We are no longer pet friendly. There are two options available; a secluded stone cottage, which sleeps two, perfect for a romantic getaway or a converted railway coach, which sleeps eight, great for the family.

The units are very well separated to ensure absolute privacy of guests at all times. Each unit has its own sparkling mineral-water splash pool and braai area. All units have an indoor log fireplace for those chilly winter evenings, although temperatures here seldom fall below +6 degree C. Whether you choose to relax at the pool side, walk to the mountain plateau, explore iron-age ruins, hike to the top of the Magaliesberg mountains or identify some of the 300 species of birds found in the area, you are guaranteed a peaceful break from the city life.

There are many recreational and sporting facilities close by, including game drives, horse riding, trout fishing, golf, tennis, quad biking, magalies meander and hot air ballooning to name but a few.

Mount Serene provides tranquil self catering units, fully equipped including a private splash pool, braai and indoor fire place.

Family friendly: We have a kiddies swing, jungle gym and trampoline on the premises.

A much needed break from the city - we did not want to leave the peace and serenity we found there. We had only taken food for one dinner and one breakfast but made it last the whole weekend so that we did not have to get into the car! The cottage was obviously decorated a long time ago and while a little tired is still clean and comfortable and we wanted for nothing. Adding sunbeds or comfy outside chairs would be the only extra thing that I would suggest.

Me and my family had a lovely time from arrival to departure. We didn't wanna leave. At night the couch was moving but in the morning i found that it stop right where it was yesterday night, quite an experience, I enjoyed every second

I needed a much needed break. I decided to leave JHB for the weekend and spent time in a train 🚊. Wonderful owner very nice establishment. I will go back again in a heart beat.

The shower curtain needs to be sorted out. It sticks to you while showering.

We were impressed with most of the weekend. But for the cost of the room. A cork screw would have been useful. But all in all we had a good time.
