About Residence Klein Oliphants Hoek

Klein Oliphants Hoek is an elegant, sophisticated and comfortable guest house set in the heart of the Franschhoek village, pearl of the Cape Winelands. Build as a mission station in 1888, this stunning guest house offers old-time chic and a touch of colonial splendour with warm, personalised, outstanding service.

We offer eight elegantly decorated but cosy en-suite rooms. For guests looking for something extra special, we have suites with private pools or Jacuzzi set in secluded courtyards. Guests can sit on the verandah overlooking the beautiful rose and lavender scented garden surrounded by a magnificent view of the Franschhoek Mountains. After an unforgettable day spent enjoying the many attractions and activities offered in the Franschhoek region, you will feel at home getting back to Klein Oliphants.

Our kitchen, run by Chef Renata and her talented Chef, Thurston Viljoen together they have created one of the most original menus in Franschhoek. With authentic Italian dishes combined with more traditional South African style cooking. Renata had always wanted to open a restaurant and believes that fate brought her together with Thurston just as he felt ready to run his own kitchen.

Like many Italians, Renata brings an extraordinary passion to everything she does, but she is also a perfectionist. This is reflected in the menu where only the freshest ingredients are used and everything, from the exquisite pasta to the warm wholewheat bread, is made by hand in their own kitchen. For a taste of Italy, you can try the sensationally soft gnocchi pomodoro e basilico, crema di asparagi, or the equally impressive ravioli dello chef. If your taste leans more towards South African dishes, you can try the slow-cooked lamb shank with freshly picked garden herbs and roasted new potatoes or the pan-fried prawns on a bed of guacamole, dressed with a creamy Riacha sauce. Remember to save room for the delectable desserts as nothing can compare to the baked chocolate pudding with an orange sauce or Chef’s Delight – Thurston’s famous chocolate cheesecake with its fine texture and subtle chocolate flavour.

Warm, characterful large, rooms. Great bathroom. (other than water restrictions in force, and tap was very sticky). perfect village position.Very friendly, engaging staff. If I must criticise, I would perhaps say the buffet at breakfast is a bit unimaginative. Could just be that its winter. Cooked breakfast and coffee were great.

My daughter and I stayed for one night during the Bastille Festival weekend. A lovely old building beautifully maintained. The welcoming staff were great. We had the room with its own terrace and little pool, a fireplace in our bedroom. The bed was extremely comfortable, and we woke up to a great breakfast. The 'restaurant' staff were so friendly and accommodating. I rarely stay twice in a place but Residence Klein Oliphants Hoek is on my repeat list! It is perfectly situated with regards to the town, walking distance to the center. Highly recommend!

This was probably our favorite accommodation in all of Southern Africa. Everything from the beautiful room, to the lavender soaps and lotions, to the fabulous food was perfect!
