About Lightleys House Boats Maguga Dam

Lightleys House Boats on Maguga Dam provides a unique, self-catered, self-drive holiday experience. Located just south of Piggs Peak, the dam has a capacity of 332 million cubic meters of water and a wall height of 115 meters, making it one of the highest in Southern Africa. It is well known for its excellent fishing opportunities and holds the national bass record currently set at 5.3kg. Fed by the Komati River, the dam is situated within the Komati Gorge which offers it protection against the elements.

As a result of the warm water flowing into it ,there is a healthy water bird population and a variety of small game roaming the banks. Swaziland is a pleasant three hour drive from Johannesburg in South Africa and Maguga Dam is just 35 minutes from either Jeppies Reef or Oshoek Border Posts, off the Piggs Peak road. For a truly African experience, Swaziland has it all; wonderful weather all year, spectacular scenic beauty, many tourist attractions, and the friendly hospitality of the locals.

We have strategically placed eight mooring points in the dam, chosen specifically for their good fishing and birding opportunities as well as their privacy. Our houseboats can sleep up to four people and are superbly equipped for a self-catering getaway, with everything you would need to prepare and enjoy your own food on board, as well as linen. There is a barbeque grill on the deck.

If you get tired of relaxing on the deck, there are numerous activities to choose from in the area. Lightleys Holiday Houseboats on Maguga Dam is part of the Swaziland Mountain Meander and guests can enjoy the nearby attractions such as the nearby Tree Top Canopy Tour , Hawane Resort with its great restaurant, a swimming pool, a sauna,a shop and a Bush Spa. The Malolotja National Park, which offers 200 km of hiking and mountain biking trails, is home to the highest water fall in Swaziland, the Malolotja Falls. Visit Ngwenya Glass, the famous glass-blowing factory, where crafters make extraordinary glassware from 100% recycled glass.

The Maguga Dam Lightleys Holiday Houseboat office is just 500m from the main slipway at the dam, where guests can relax in the comfort of the tea garden while the boat operations are explained to you.

The boat is very clean I must say. The skipper, Kindom Magagula, very kind young man and helpful. The boat need some maintenance. i.e, cabin door is stuck and cant close, there a problem with the gas geyser, the skipper had to come early to help us with, and we had to shower while he was there.bedding very clean and smelled very good, but could not say the same about the extra blankets, which simply is never washed

Nice experience but boat needs attention like propeller, anchor is broken, the ropes on the boat are to short, hatch is broken, there are only two harbours as the others have gone also no charcoal on the boat and no chemicals in the toilet.

We arrived at Lightley house boats Maguga dam were we were welcomed by Kingdom. He showed us the does and dont's and how to operate the boat. The environment was amazing and the trip was stunning. We had two days that was cold and rainy, were we went to explore the nearby things. We first went to the glass factory, we missed the candle factory thats sad! We also done a lot of photo shoots of the beauty of the landscape around in our area. I was amazed to see how clean and different the culture is. We have really enjoyed the stay and will be coming back soon.
