About Grootfontein Camping Villages

Got no tent. Can't camp? No longer the case, intrepid budget traveller. With the arrival of Wolfkop Camping Villages, the hassle and logistics of a camping weekend is now a thing of the past. In fact, if the blurb "you only bring food and clothes" is anything to go by, any preconceived idea you have about camping - leaking tents, missing poles and pegs, hard ground and sand fleas, is in for a serious shake up.

To set the scene, what we offer is a 100-hectare citrus-buchu-rooibos farm located about 20 km from Citrusdal, with the campsite located right on the banks of the Olifants River, so we're not talking dodge municipal setting. We're talking wide open spaces, green grass, gorgeous sunsets, languid days filled with swimming, braaing and getting to know your neighbours.

Each camping village, there can be a maximum of six spread along a 200 m stretch, comprises a 7.5 or 10 square Bedouin free form marquee with an excellent outlook over the water, and one to three (depending on group size) canvas tents pitched underneath and equipped with three-quarter high density foam mattresses, cotton percale bedding, blankets, towels. Then, there's a fully equipped kitchen area with a braai grid and utensils, chairs, tables, electric light and cooler boxes.

Furthermore, every village has its own power point and hammocks, lest you forget that camping is hard work. Ablutions hot showers and flush toilets are communal, as is the fridge for the frosties, freezer and microwave. Talk about roughing it in style.

Canoes and kayaks are available for hire - but bring your own if you have.

We spent two nights in the weekend. What an amazing weekend getaway. Swimming, canoeing, braaing and enjoying the sunset. Great camping spots very private and everything you need. Clean and neat basic communal toilet and shower facilities. Very friendly people at the camping as well! Will definitely come back!

Spent week camping at Wolfkop. Almost perfect as far as location, however, with sixteen sites the ablution facilities are totally inadequate. The communal kitchen area is also in need of an upgrade (new fridges /freezers and microwave ) as the number of these items currently available are not adequate for the number of people on site. The cleanliness of the communal area's was also not up to scratch. If the owner can sort out these areas the camping experience will be 5 star.

I got to the campsite really late and was greeted with a board that had my name on it (which i found to be cute) everything was at the campsite nothing out of place. The morning took my breath away when i stepped out of my tent the view of the mountains was absolutely stunning. Wolfkop camping villages will definitely see me again. Beautiful spot that I will recommend to anyone.Thank You
