About Goblin Creek Manor House

Do you want to spoil yourself and your partner, if so look no further. At last, a guest house with a difference.

On arrival a welcoming sherry and a huge log fire in the lounge. Each bedroom has its own romantic four-poster king-size bed draped with a silk mosquito net and of course, a log fireplace. Each also has its own bathroom with an old-fashioned ball and claw bath and lots of candles. After settling in, why not drop down onto one of the many overstuffed couches in front of the fire for liqueurs and a good book.

We are on a lovely protected cove on the south western shore of St Helena Bay; one of the only three natural bays on the mainland coastlines of the world, where one can see both sunset and sunrise over the sea with wonderful views of the Piketberg mountains which is often snow covered in winter. Though only 150 km from the Cape Peninsula, St Helena Bay has a milder and warmer climate providing ideal conditions for your stay.

Even Vasco dea Gama, the Portuguese explore/sailor who visited these fair shores in 1497, realized the peace of this quiet haven; as do calving whales who come from August to years end. Also spot large schools of dolphins often seen leaping and chasing close by.

Well situated for day visits to the West Coast National Park, Cape Columbine Nature Reserve and the quaint fishing village of Paternoster or join a tour of the internationally renowned Pala ontological diggings at the nearby Fossil Park. A birdwatcher's paradise with more than 200 species, visit the hides at Rocher Pan, the Berg River Estuary and Saltpans of Velddrif, as well as the golf club in Vredenberg.

A botanist's dream with spring flower veld displays every year or visit the annual Darling and Hopefield flower shows.

Stroll the white sands and cool off in the safe waters of the bay, the ideal place for water sports. Explore the seafood route or dive to the many wrecks and at the end of a perfect day, raise your glass to a spectacular sunset and the promise of yet another breathtaking day. An ideal rest stop for weary travellers during the week.

Peaceful and tranquil, great for stress relief. The Manor has an old worldly charm to it with it's four poster beds and Victorian style baths. The candles and fire places in the rooms add to the romantic feel. Our hosts Brett & Rosie were friendly and accommodating.

We stayed a night at Goblin Creek in August when we went up the West Coast to see the flowers. The house is in a lovely quiet spot at the end of the road, and when you wake up all you can hear is the birds singing in the beautiful, large garden behind the house. The room was very comfortable and we were given such a warm welcome. We especially enjoyed meeting the chickens and other animals at breakfast the next day. We will definitely be back.

A stunning Guest House with beautiful rooms and not a sound to disturb a good night's rest.We were greeted upon arrival by a very friendly young man, who explained the basic working of the Guest House to us.We wanted a more personal reception, but the owners were away for the weekend and could not provide that personal touch.Reading through the impressive guest list and all the fantastic comments, it appears as if we missed the magic of the house and that was such a pity.Maybe we will give it another bash to see if we can remove the ghosts? Certainly enough potential. . . . .

No one explained the facilities and how the house operates - forget the missing welcoming glass of sherry. So when leaving the braai room that evening, my wife and I had to stumble through the dark garden, avoiding the water from the sprinklers, hosepipes, deckchairs, trees, and a huge concrete-lined pit nearby. That's only one example. By far our most unenjoyable stay on the West Coast so far.I felt more like a trespasser than a guest.

This beautiful beach boasts magical scenery and a typical Cape West Coast feel, with a pristine stretch of whit sand, tiny shell-strewn nooks, and beautifully etched rocky areas. Swimming and diving is very popular here.
