We knew when we booked our stay, that there would be no electricity/coms, but living it was quite an experience indeed:We were forced to talk to each other instead of whatsapp; the kids played boardgames instead of on tablets; they stared at the stars and into the fire, instead of at the TV; we read books instead of facebook updates; and went exploring physically instead of via Google.I would definitely encourage packing in a small torch per person, especially in Winter - it does get dark quite early, and once its dark, it's VERY dark! And perhaps some blitz/firelighters - yes, I know that's...

My Family and I really enjoyed the stay at the house. It was a great break away and the lack of cell coverage was the bonus.

I initially booked at the Experience 1880 as a stop over on the way back to JHB from coffee bay. It is difficult to put in words how we experienced the place and a word that comes to mind is serenity. We just felt comfortable and relaxed from when we arrived to when we left. Everything is picturesque - the misty mornings, the cows and horses, the rooms. We absolutely loved it and wished we could actually stay a few days longer

Absolute breathtaking views and isolation. We really can't wait to go back and didn't miss the lack of electricity at all
