About Bushbuck River House

Bushbuck River House is set in 105 acres of bush on the banks of the Zambezi and is the first property beyond the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park boundary. The house is an owner run traditional Zambian farm house, which has been renovated and thatched to a high standard.

We have four rooms in the house and a short distance away Waterbuck Cottage, which has two self contained units with river views, each with two bedrooms. The downstairs unit offers self catering facilities.

There is a swimming pool, pool boma and tree house/viewing platform overlooking the river.

Located approximately 16km from the centre of town the house gives easy access to Livingstone and the Victoria Falls, whilst also providing a tranquil and secure setting. Because the property is bounded by both the National Park and the Zambezi River there are frequent sightings of bushbuck, waterbuck, elephant, hippo, duiker, buffalo, cape clawless otter, vervet monkey and baboon. Night sightings have included spotted genet, scrub hare, thick tailed bush baby and porcupine. A recent bird survey listed over 180 species. If you enjoy walking there is plenty of opportunity to do so, both on the farm itself and, if water levels are low, on one of the nearby islands in the Zambezi.

Accommodation can be on a bed and breakfast or half board basis.
The evening meal is a three course set meal and food is freshly prepared and home cooked.
Whenever possible we use produce from our own organic garden and orchard, but sometimes the elephants and monkeys get there first.

We can offer transfers and a booking service for activities in and around Livingstone.

We really enjoyed our time at Bushbuck River House. Linda, Oriel and Alan are lovely people and they run a great "ship"!. The food is excellent, the surroundings are great and we enjoyed being able to relax and watch the wildlife. Thanks so much. We were also impressed with the input they've had into the local community and were happy to know that some of the money we spent was going to that cause as well.

We had an excellent stay and were very impressed by the excellent suggestions for activities and the quiet atmosphere at the house.

We had booked four nights at the Bushbuck River House and found to our horror that cat's were running freely in the gust house. Being extremely allergic to cat's we were unable to stay, however the 50% deposit we had paid was not refunded as we were told that it was not their problem......very bad customer relations, as a tour operator I would not book clients there.

Myself and a friend stayed at the lodge for 7 days and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The lodge owners Oriel and Alan are fantastic hosts and really bring a very homely feel to the lodge. The home-cooked meals are fantastic and the breakfasts are a real treat for bachelors. Can definitely recommend Bushbuck River House for those travellers who enjoy the quiet serenity that the Zambezi bush has to offer.

We had as totally relaxing and enjoyable time at Bushbuck River House. Warm welcome and accommodation. Our special wishes was served with a smile. A super fantastic lemon cheese cake crowned our boma dinner. And an early morning walk with bird specialist Alan was really appreciated by all who went. Thank you so much we wish you lots of success, also with your community project.
