About Augrabies Falls National Park SANParks

The Khoi people called it "Aukoerebis", or place of Great Noise, as this powerful flow of water is unleashed from rocky surroundings characterised by the 18km abyss of the Orange River Gorge.

Quiver trees stand in stark silhouette against the African sky, silent sentinels in a strangely unique environment where only those that are able to adapt ultimately survive. The 55,383 hectares on both the northern and southern sides of the Orange River provide sanctuary to a diversity of species, from the very smallest succulents, birds and reptiles to springbok, gemsbok and giraffe.

Activities available include waterfall viewpoints, game viewing using own vehicle, night drives (bookable at the park), etc.

Other useful information at this rest camp:

- Pets are not allowed in a National Park

- Malaria prophylactics and mosquito repellents are a good precaution. Malaria has been historically recorded in the area but is not very prevalent. Please consult your chemist/doctor to alleviate any concerns.

- Bicycles, roller blades and skateboards are not allowed.

- You may enter the Park with motorcycles and are allowed to stay in the camping site.

- Remember to bring a hat, walking shoes, sun block, camera, binoculars and wildlife reference books.

- As outdoor lighting in camps is limited, a torch/headlamp is required when walking outside at night.

- Hikers on day and overnight trails must always carry sufficient water.

- Take cool or light clothing for summer and warm for winter – area prone to sudden weather changes.

PLEASE NOTE: the rates are subject to the number of adults and children staying. Quotes will include the 1% Community Levy, but will exclude daily conservation fees, which are to be paid directly to camp on arrival.

Without doubt this is the most fantastic and unique accommodation, which we ever stayed ! Magnificent location and breathtaking views is worth while to travel for hundreds kilometers! To be there is a dream!!!!However, there is two negative points that leave you a bit disappointed:1. The toilet and shower is not part of the house. Who on earth could make a decision to place the toilet 20meters away from the accommodation? There is not even a nice path to comfortably walk comfortably in the dark! Your feet are full of little thorns after the shower!2. The deck on top of the house is open to...

We were greeted so friendly at the gate and Then the disappointment of no ice and wood on site due to Covid. No plan was made to accommodate travellers who could not travel back to a town for supplies. My husband who is slightly disabled found the bathroom in a shocking state. The lock did not work and the baboons had messed inside. The cleaners on site did nothing to clean the bathroom in the 4 days we stayed there. The lights at parking bays in camping site were mostly not working . We were warned not to camp there as the Baboons had taken over the camp. On arrival we informed the receptionis...

Augrabies is one of our favourite holiday destinations.Unfortunately the chalets are old and outdated, but at least they are clean and functional.Covid 19 seems ro have taken it's toll on SANParks staff as they were not really visible, but the baboons are becoming a problem again. There is no WiFi, cellphone reception is poor, no radio reception, no TV for those that want it.SANParks is expensive for what they offer, bearing in mind that you still have to pay the daily conservation fee.

We camped and it was really good. There was enough space to not be on top of your neighbours.Ablutions were clean and spacious.Other than a big baboon going through our stuff looking for food (there was no food) we had a lovely time at Augrabies

Lovely stay in the caravan park (camping). Not all stands have an electricity point. Beware of monkeys (😄) and ‘’muskeljaatkatte”. Overall a very pleasant stay in beautiful surroundings!
