About Antbear Lodge

Antbear Lodge is an owner run venue that just oozes hospitality. The wood work is quirky and inspiring and is all hand made on the property. The en-suite rooms are smartly appointed with fireplaces and Jacuzzi spa baths. We also have a luxury cave with glass doors opening on to a wooden deck with hammock chairs and a panoramic view of the Drakensberg Mountains. Meals are prepared with a real South African flare and the organic vegetable garden contributes a lot to the ingredients we use. We have our own chickens for eggs, cows for milk, bake our own bread and even make our own cheese.

We have just the perfect place for a honeymoon or special occasion. We are a small Lodge (only 15 suites) and we let our guests feel welcome in quiet and private surroundings. The cave is such that you can even have a candlelit bath while sipping champagne from the Jacuzzi spa bath right in the bedroom. The room is eccentrically furnished with homemade bed and cupboards. We cook great food which is the finishing touch to a perfect honeymoon or special occasion.

We offer horse riding on the farm as well as hiking on the farm.

We are an easy drive to Giant's Castle and Kamberg Nature Reserve for hiking and Rock Art viewing as well as to the Midlands Meander for arts and crafts.

Overall, Antbear is a nice guest house to enjoy a peaceful time away. Although Andrew and Connie were away for the weekend, the staff were accommodating and quite hospitable. I did think that the guest house was a bit overpriced given that it lacks the facilities and location of other resorts in the 'Berg' but carries the same price tag.

As always we fell under the charm of The Antbear, of its beautiful views and stunning, handmade wooden furniture and fittings. Welcoming and informative staff and hosts. Delicious food, prepared with the freshest farm produce add to enjoyment. It is easier to reach/find than one wold think, and the perfect location to tour the central Drakensberg or the Midlands Meander.

Wow. We stayed at the Antbear Guesthouse for two wonderful nights. We could not have been made more welcome by the friendly hosts. This is the kind of guesthouse where you want to unpack your bags and never leave. Everything about our stay was first class. Our rooms were a delight and full of interesting handmade wooden furniture and fixings as well as extremely well equipped. The food, service and company were fabulous. The setting is ideal for exploring this part of South Africa and we were given plenty of advice and ideas for places to visit. We would have no hesitation in recommending...
