About Addo Main Rest Camp Addo Elephant National Park SANParks

Addo Main Rest Camp is a popular main rest camp of the park and offers a wide variety of accommodation units to suit all tastes as well as plenty of activities to keep visitors busy. A unique feature is the waterhole lookout point within the camp, floodlit at night, and the underground hide allowing close encounters with wildlife at the waterhole.

Evenings are punctuated with the call of lions, spotted hyenas and jackals, while francolin and bokmakieries herald each dawn. Accommodation units are situated within easy walking distance of each other and facilities including a swimming pool, restaurant and shop.

Activities available include game drives, horse trails, 4x4 trails, hiking trails, and marine eco tours.

The climate is temperate to hot and temperatures in summer (November to February) may reach over 40 degrees Celsius. Winter days are mild but cold at night with frost occurring at times. The average annual rainfall is 450 mm and is spread throughout the year, although peaks do often occur in February/March and October/November.

Other useful information at this rest camp:

- Some loops of the tourist roads in the park are tarred while the others are graveled. The gravel roads are in good condition and can be accessed with a normal vehicle, but these may be closed in very wet weather. The main entrance road into the park is tarred.

- Vehicle fuel is available in all parks (or is available on the park periphery).

- Insect repellent is recommended, especially in summer.

- No immunisations are needed for travel to the park as it is situated in a malaria-free area.

PLEASE NOTE: the rates are subject to the number of adults and children staying. Quotes will include the 1% Community Levy, but will exclude daily conservation fees, which are to be paid directly to camp on arrival.

Would be nice to see pictures of the different accomodations as didnt get a good idea what it wd look like as the one picture that is shown is not the forest cabin So maybe post more pictures of the place as will draw more people to book. We had a great stay and the staff were all very friendly. Great food and a well stocked shop with food and gifts. Well done!

Apart of the rain the first day and a half, everything else was excellent. We really enjoyed everything. To see all the elephants , some with babies was obviously our highlight.

We had a bad experience with the reception lady treating us in an unfriendly manner very badly. We drove around for 45 min to find our cabin due to her. Went back second time and she was the same and a gentleman intervened in assisting us

We absolutely loved the peaceful and quietness of the cottage and being able to walk around in the Park .

The camp sites were clean and well laid out. Many of the lights along the walkways were out of order and the museum needed a good clean. The ablutions need a bit of TLC but were clean inside. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.
