About Train Lodge

Train Lodge is situated in Cape Town and offers unique and affordable accommodation in ten vintage railway coaches. The coaches are original and fully revamped to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The Train Lodge is within close proximity of Cape Town station, including the My Citi bus terminal and the national touring bus terminal.

The accommodation is in two-and four-berth compartments where you can opt for a choice of single or double bed cabins. The bathroom facilities have been built behind and separately from the coaches, designed to be easily accessible and private. The locomotive bar and cocktail lounge areas are fitted with flat-screen TVs with DStv, a swimming pool and a braai area. Our pride and joy is our restaurant situated in one of the coaches, where you can experience our delicious food from our a la carte menu.

Our cigar lounge is a favourite part of our venue for parties and functions. It is open to the public from 10 am daily until late at night. The lounge has comfortable couches and a fireplace making it a cosy and relaxed environment, and we screen all major sport events. Our swimming pool area has bar facilities offering sundowners, and is ideal for groups of up to 65 people. We can arrange any tour, as well as transfers, transport bookings and travel advice.

We were looking forward to staying in what we thought would be an interesting train conversion. What we experienced was extremely run-down accommodation. Communal toilet door had no lock and the other toilet in our carriage had the seat ripped off and lying on the floor. The door to the outside shower (which only had cold water) was locked and nailed shut. We were told we could use the shower across the platform outside another carriage. No soap or paper towels in the toilets. The previous evening the hotel had hosted what the front-desk clerk told us was a "rave" involving about 450 people...
