About Nhambavale Lodge

Basking on the tranquil shores of Lake Nhambavale, just 1,2 km from the beach, Nhambavale Lodge offers fully serviced and fully catered, airy Machop-style chalets, rondavels, and 12 spacious campsites. The restaurant and bar area is situated on the lake itself, and offers a menu of seafood, special local dishes, traditional favourites and our famous peri-peri chicken.

The rondavels, built in a local straw-roof style sleep two guests and have either en-suite or private bathroom facilities. The other four units are chalets and can sleep up to four guests in two rooms. The chalets are equipped with en-suite bathrooms as well as a fully fitted kitchen for self-catering. Lastly, the Casa Grande, our largest chalet, offers four double bedrooms, a dining area, and a kitchen with a fridge, cooker, cutlery and crockery. All the units are also equipped with mosquito nets for guests' convenience. The campsites, each accommodating up to eight people, are located in the spacious and trim garden area, complete with bricked barbecue areas, water taps, electric power points, and shady straw roof areas.

Whether you fish rock and surf, elegantly cast flies for the elusive kingfish, or take to deeper water in a ski-boat, the exciting Chidenguele coast has it all. For the rock and surf enthusiast, our waters are renowned for kingfish, stumpnose, pompano and bonefish. There are also a number of unbelievable deep water ledges to fish off where king mackerel, ignobilis kingfish and giant barracuda are frequently caught, while fly-fishers will find some of the best fly-fishing in Mozambique, off our beaches and rock ledges.

Other activities include snorkelling and spear-fishing, whale watching, swimming, bronzing on the beach, bird watching, and visiting the large swamplands. If you would rather stay on the lake, the lodge has canoes and kayaks for hire. There is also a beach-volleyball court on the mini lakeside beach. The bar area offers a variety of board games, books and darts, as well as a TV with satellite to watch the rugby, and for the kids, there are a variety of animals at the lodge.

Beach: Located within walking distance to the beach.

Nhambavale Lodge definitely has our vote of excellence!! Easily accessible, the accommodation has a true holiday flavour to it, the owners made us feel right at home, and were very friendly and helpful. Our stay was shorter than we would've wanted to, but we really enjoyed what Nhambavale had to offer. The food was brilliant, and excellent value for money. The camp site and ablution facilities were clean and very well maintained, and they offer accommodation for anybody's requirements. The beach is a short distance away, and easily accessible, although a 4x4 is required when reaching the beach...

Greg and his time are most welcoming.Great food at restaurant.I didn´t realise how far it is from Xai-Xai though, when looking for an overnight stay.Be aware, you can only get there with a 4x4.Our sedan was securely parked at a building, free beer and a story included,Would come back, just not for a pass-by stop.Beautiful lake to enjoy and relax at

*What is on the website and what we got were completely different, you don't want to drive 9 hours and get accommodation that looks like that.*several people who booked to stay there over new year left before their departure time due to disappointment.*They serve coffee until 9:00, why would I wake up before 9:00, when I'm on holiday is beyond me.*I do not mind the outdoors but to have spiders and frogs inside the chalets was horrible.*the kitchen we were using was communal but the crockery and cutlery you wouldn't even use for a dog, and the damaged  fridge couldn't close properly. (I wish I...

as we arrived at Nhambavale Lodge after spending a 7 hour trip on the road we were glad to have met Gail at Nhambavale. Gail, the sleeping accommodation and the extended hours for the kitchen were really appreciated. As you explained you need to have a 4x4 coming to the camping site, but having a trailer attached just did not work in our favor. The restaurant area we had for our Christmas Lunch was a lovely touch to the hospitality we encountered at Nhambavale. I would recommend the accommodation to anyone who wants to experience a bit of rural and extended hospitality, The ablution facilities...

Wenela Tidal Pool

(10.5 km from Xai Xai)

Wenela Tidal Pool, two kilometres south of Xai-Xai, is a fascinating natural treasure. The tidal pool has a natural channel that leads underground into the ocean, creating a "blow-hole" effect that is something to be seen.

The Lagoa Uembje (Uembje Lagoon), or Sao Martinho as it was known during colonial times, is an amazing boating and watersports venue. Occasionally open to the sea, the lagoon is separated from Praia do Bilene by a long strip of sand dunes. Try...

Kick back with an ice cold 2M beer at the beachfront Coconuts Bar in Complexo Palmeiras. Here you can watch DSTV or play a game of snooker.

Drive inside Bilene and take turn left to Villa Nhabanga. Follow Villa Nhabanga boards until you get the board "Boa Vista".
