    Bulawayo Bulawayo
    Town of Bulawayo Province

    Bulawayo - Zimbabwe
I had low expectations of Bulawayo and went there because I wanted to see the Matopos National Park. However, Bulawayo was a lot nicer than I had thought and I enjoyed spending time there. As with the rest of Zimbabwe, there is a strong element of faded glory and everything is 'a bit broken', but the people are as friendly as they always have been and there is no feeling of insecurity or menace. I would recommend including Bulawayo on an itinerary of Zimbabwe, if only as an extra to visiting the Matopos National Park.

    Masvingo
    Town of Masvingo Area

    Masvingo - Zimbabwe
Masvingo is not a pretty town, but it is functional and has the amenities you need if you are travelling in the area. It is close to the Great Zimbabwe ruins - which are a 'must' for anyone travelling through Zimbabwe. The close by area of Lake Kyle (Lake Mutirikwi) is stunning and there are some nice places to stay on the shores.

    Masvingo
    Town of Masvingo Area

    Great Zimbabwe is, well, great.
Masvingo town is a pleasant enough place but the real reason one travels to it - or rather through it - is to visit Great Zimbabwe. What a fabulous place! The remains are very impressive and their setting is just beautiful. Be sure to hire a guide who will explain Great Zimbabwe's history and significance and be sure to allow the best part of half a day to do full justice to the site. We visited in June 2013 and liked it so much we drove from Pretoria to see it again in January 2015.
