White River Reviews

Tranquil and welcoming
I found the service at restaurants, our guesthouse and even in the shops extremely helpful and welcoming - nothing was an effort. I would recommend a stop at Casterbridge Centre, which was a great surprise. The coffee/gift shop at the Garden Pavillion (near Uplands College) is quaint and the owners are wonderful. White River has all the essentials, but with a big town like Nelspruit just 20 minutes away, you can spend a few days travelling in the area without any inconvenience.

A quaint town
My boyfriend and I do a trip every December to areas around South Africa. With Safarinow at my fingertips we decided to visit Mpumalanga with our first stop being the quiet little town of White River. Having never been there, driving through the sprawling city o Nelspruit, there was nothing better than driving into the small region of White River with it's clean streets and friendly folk. We stayed at a lovely place just outside town called Lyttle Irving. After crunching our way across the Macadamia nut shells, we were shown to our room, guided by the owner and her three friendly dogs. The...

White River: A Small Town with a Cosmopolitan Soul
My husband and I moved to White River three years ago to set up umSisi House and umSisi Cottage in the Jock of the Bushveld Conservancy in the Peebles Valley. Although we’d been in the Lowveld area for ten years we had relied on Nelspruit (the provincial capital) as our closest town and didn’t know White River well at all. It was always just a sleepy little town, slightly out of our way, where we went to buy nuts (cashews, macadamias, almonds, peanuts and a whole array of other goodies) for our guests or transited on our way through to the Kruger National Park. So are we pleased we made the...

My Small Town White River
Nestled in the scenic, hilly Lowveld and a quick hour’s drive from the Kruger National Park, the little town of White River seems to charm its way into the itineraries of more than just a few unsuspecting tourists.Founded around the 1980’s, the town originally sprung up as a result of citrus farming that took place in the Crocodile River Valley after the Anglo-Boer War. Today, it is a launch pad for tourists to Mozambique, the Kruger National Park and the numerous other game parks in the surrounding bushveld, as well as a trendy retreat for upmarket urbanites seeking a taste of ‘country life’....

Very nice town
White River is a very nice, small country town with nice restaurants to go to, and lovely people. If you expect shops such as Boardmans, then you should not be travelling to White River and rather stay in Johannesburg. Please keep White River the way it is.

Nice little town
White River itself is not that pretty but surrounding it there are a number of beautiful places, great shops and fantastic restaurants. I would recommend staying in the area.
