In Suurbraak, on the other side of the river, is the quaint self-catering cottage, “Bibi’s Joy”, belonging to Peter and Bibi Present. Its appeal lies in its solitude and the fact that the mountain is its back-yard. This set-up is ideal for the avid outdoors-person, as mountain-biking, hiking, cross-country running, cycling, and even swimming and canoeing depending of the water level of the river, can be practiced with ease. Bibi's Joy is as promising as its name suggests. Accommodation comprises two en-suite bedrooms with double beds and bedding. There are eight sleeping stretchers available for the kids. The sunny and spacious living room comprises a fully furnished lounge with fire place and kitchen with Dover Stove, fridge and crockery and cutlery. Wood is included, and there is also a gas stove. There is a geyser with hot water, and the lights are solar powered. Outside in the tranquil garden there is a carport for one car and misters for those hot summer days. Our neighbour will take care of you upon your arrival, and you are free to contact us at any time should you require any further information. The charming cottage has a lovely garden with many indigenous plant species and ancient oak trees. This is a haven for birders, as even the odd kingfisher is spotted on the property. Hoopoe’s, the Cape robin, a variety of sugar birds, fiscal shrike, forktailed drongo’s are found here. Goats, horses and cattle on the adjacent plots add character and complement the country feel. One of the reasons the main gate must be kept closed at all times. Nestled at the foothills of the lush and beautiful Langeberg Mountains, lies the picturesque little town of Suurbraak. Just outside of Swellendam, Suurbraak is home to a small farming community of hearty people and is the charming thoroughfare of the DC 200; a popular annual cycle race.

With spectacular unobstructed views of the sea and coastline, Voorhuis harmoniously blends in with its natural habitat. The interior reflects a delightful fusion of rustic and elegance, with cement floors inlaid with peach pips and crystal chandeliers suspended from reed ceilings. Time here flows by effortlessly, marked only by the changing of the tides, the sun, the moon, and stars. Listen to the sound of the breaking waves and the harsh calls of the seagulls and watch the dolphins and whales pass by. Wind your way down the steps to the shore, breathe in the fresh salty air, feel the cool breeze on your face, and taste true happiness. Western Cape South Africa

Western Cape Country House Accommodation

The Western Cape is so different to the rest of South Africa. It's kind of tacked on to the bottom of Africa - the full stop of the exclamation mark that is this amazing continent. Without a doubt, though, the Western Cape is South Africa's most visited province, and it's hardly surprising. With the lovely city of Cape Town and the unbelievably beautiful Garden Route, there is so much to see. Even the relatively Spartan West Coast has its own charm, as does the dry and relatively monochromatic, but dramatic, Karoo. The Cape Floral Region, which is a world heritage site, extends into the Baviaanskloof Protected Area in the Eastern Cape, but otherwise is confined to the Western Cape.

The botanically important areas include the ruggedly scenic Cederberg Wilderness Area, the Groot Winterberg Wilderness Area, the lovely Overberg and the Swartberg, near Oudtshoorn. It's a paradise of beautiful beaches, fabulous flowers and forests, and magnificent mountain scenery. It is not the best province in South Africa for game viewing, but there are a few good reserves and some lovely lodges. While detractors complain that the Western Cape isn't 'real Africa', it does have some fascinating cultural attractions. Wonderful rock art sites, lovely old buildings, many museums and monuments and some really unusual cultural tours make the Western Cape a great destination for anyone wanting to do a bit of thinking while on holiday.

Fabulous food - particularly Cape Malay cuisine - wonderful wine farms, more golf courses than necessary, and a veritable smorgasbord of adventure activities mean you'll never get bored and you'll never go hungry.
