Welcome to McGregor Backpackers, where your hosts Geoff and Dorothy Botton along with their ‘backpacker mutts’ Gracie, Jessie and Phoebe, are waiting to welcome you to their little world of peace and serenity. McGregor Backpackers is situated in the heart of McGregor, surrounded by the majestic Langeberg Mountains, and just a short stroll away from all the places of interest in the village. McGregor Backpackers offers you a complete homely experience with a fully fitted kitchen and modern gas cooking convenience. The kitchen has everything you need if you are in the mood to cook up a storm. The cosy dining room, with its Gaudi-inspired fireplace, invites you to sit and linger over a meal or a lovely glass of wine. The lounge area offers DStv, a selection of games, magazines and books. Wi-Fi is also available so you can stay in touch. If its game time then Pooky's pub is just the right place for you to watch that important game and cheer for the home side. The braai area is made for interesting ‘around the fire’ conversations, bring your musical instruments and entertain the crowds that are sure to gather there. Braai wood can be supplied at a small fee. Weber braai facilities are also available. There are a variety of different rooms at the backpackers. A total of 22 people can be accommodated in the backpacker’s comfortable rooms, mostly all with en suite facilities, except for two buddy rooms which would share a communal bathroom. All linen and towels are supplied. McGregor with its beautiful climate, clean air, wonderful night skies, not to mention its friendly people, beckoned and we could not resist her call. You can visit the coffee shops, chat with the locals and allow the relaxed pace to slow your heartbeat down. There are many activities for visitors to McGregor, we have beautiful walks and hikes, the level of effort is up to you, or you can just park off and relax in the tranquillity of our beautiful gardens. There are a number of local wineries to visit for wine tasting and purchasing those lovely wines that may not be available in your local wine shop at home You can bring your mountain bike and go and explore the countryside, take the highways or the byways, you never know what you will encounter till you get there.

Windstone farm is a peaceful Backpackers lodge located on the R45, 10 km from Vredenburg and 120 km from Cape Town. Once a horse stud and equestrian school, Windstone is now primarily a guest farm and caters for groups of all sizes. Windstone is centrally situated and all major towns and attractions are within 25 km from us. There are two accommodation options available, a Backpackers which has six rooms and can accommodate six persons per room, each room is en suite. Backpackers features a shared Lounge, Kitchen and Braai area. We also have dorm accommodation for school, church and youth groups and can cater for 104 persons. We can also accommodate larger groups by combining the backpackers which gives us 140 persons. There is a male and female wing with separate ablutions and an adjoining hall which can fit 200 plus persons seated and includes a stage and lighting. Catering is available for group bookings and all food is made with fresh ingredients. We also offer conference facilities in one of two halls, and can offer a PA system, overhead projector, whiteboards etc. We have seats for 300. There are many facilities on the farm that guests can make use of including Volleyball court, large sand soccer field, obstacle course and braai facilities sprinkled all over. You will also find horses in paddocks if you explore a bit and no doubt will come across many feathery friends that call Windstone home. We have bird feed buckets scattered throughout so children can feed the chickens and peacocks. We are Pet friendly and have a Kennels and Cattery on the property to keep your pets safe for an additional cost.

Jacobsbaai is situated midway between Vredenburg and Saldanha Bay and is an isolated traditional Cape West Coast village. Most of the roads are gravel roads which keeps traffic at a snail's pace; this has resulted in a peaceful little resort town ideal for a weekend getaway or relaxing holiday.

Boesmanskloof Accommodation - Die Galg offers ideal overnight accommodation for hikers on the trail and guests wanting to get away from the city. Guests can choose between the comfortable Stone Barn Huts or one of the lovely white Thatch Cottages. All accommodation is self-catering and all units are equipped with crockery, cutlery and cookware, as well as electricity, a two-plate stove and a kettle. Each unit also features an indoor fireplace and is furnished with single beds. The bathrooms consist of showers only and bedding is provided. Wood is available at and additional cost and must be ordered before arrival. Guests can make use of the swimming pool, the jungle gym will keep the children entertained, and the 11 km Rooikrantzberg Rocky 4x4 Route will keep the adventurous busy. A selection of hiking trails can be found in the area, but please note a permit is needed to do the well-known Boesmanskloof/Die Galg Trail. Oak Falls is half way to Greyton and is the ideal place for a rest and to enjoy the rock pool. Plant lovers can enjoy identifying the Cape fynbos and other beautiful flowers including Compacta, Repens, Speldekussings, Heide and much more. The variety of eagles, owls, Malachite sunbird and much more can also be seen by the avid bird watcher, and small, shy antelope are frequently seen browsing close to the cottages. Go for a picnic and enjoy the view with coffee or wine and enjoy the fresh mountain air and the peaceful atmosphere. Grocery purchases can also be done on behalf of hikers before arrival, at a cost of 20% of the total value of the groceries purchased. Boesmanskloof is situated 16 km from McGregor and can accommodate groups of up to 60 - ideal for church and school camps.

Western Cape Backpacker Hostel Accommodation

The Western Cape is so different to the rest of South Africa. It's kind of tacked on to the bottom of Africa - the full stop of the exclamation mark that is this amazing continent. Without a doubt, though, the Western Cape is South Africa's most visited province, and it's hardly surprising. With the lovely city of Cape Town and the unbelievably beautiful Garden Route, there is so much to see. Even the relatively Spartan West Coast has its own charm, as does the dry and relatively monochromatic, but dramatic, Karoo. The Cape Floral Region, which is a world heritage site, extends into the Baviaanskloof Protected Area in the Eastern Cape, but otherwise is confined to the Western Cape.

The botanically important areas include the ruggedly scenic Cederberg Wilderness Area, the Groot Winterberg Wilderness Area, the lovely Overberg and the Swartberg, near Oudtshoorn. It's a paradise of beautiful beaches, fabulous flowers and forests, and magnificent mountain scenery. It is not the best province in South Africa for game viewing, but there are a few good reserves and some lovely lodges. While detractors complain that the Western Cape isn't 'real Africa', it does have some fascinating cultural attractions. Wonderful rock art sites, lovely old buildings, many museums and monuments and some really unusual cultural tours make the Western Cape a great destination for anyone wanting to do a bit of thinking while on holiday.

Fabulous food - particularly Cape Malay cuisine - wonderful wine farms, more golf courses than necessary, and a veritable smorgasbord of adventure activities mean you'll never get bored and you'll never go hungry.
