Tongabezi is a luxury lodge near Victoria Falls on the banks of the Zambezi River. It was founded in 1990 by Ben Parker and the late Will Ruck-Keene, pioneers of eco-tourism in Zambia. Privately owned and run, Tongabezi combines romance and exclusivity with warm and attentive service. Each house and cottage has its own valet who takes care of guests throughout their stay and act as a private concierge. There is no set pattern to days at Tongabezi. Guests can do as much or as little as they wish, with game drives, bush walks and boating trips all included in the price. The majestic Victoria Falls can be viewed on foot in the National Park, from inside the gorge, from Livingstone Island, and from the air. The Lookout was conceived as the ultimate chill-out zone next to the existing Tonga Lounge, dining and cocktail decks. With its feet planted firmly in the Zambezi, the Lookout offers guests the chance to feel at one with the great river, and the separate levels ensure extra privacy. Whether you need to check in with the world in our high-tech ante room, celebrate life and all its glories with a meal or take a deep breath to practice the forgotten art of hibernation, the Lookout provides the perfect space. The Tongabezi vision is legendary. Extravagance here is not a function of how much we can impress our guests with largesse, everything we do is carefully calibrated to provide the physical and spiritual realm for all our visitors to achieve the holy grail of travel, returning to reality with renewed verve, a clearer, more sparkly version of yourself. Activities included in the price of your safari holiday include canoeing on the Zambezi, island lunch, sanpan floating candlelit dinner, visit to Mukuni Park, sunrise and sunset boating, introduction to Simonga Village, guided bush walks, museum tour, fishing, game drives and a Maramba Market visit.

Bushbuck River House is set in 105 acres of bush on the banks of the Zambezi and is the first property beyond the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park boundary. The house is an owner run traditional Zambian farm house, which has been renovated and thatched to a high standard. All rooms in the main house are en-suite and there is a swimming pool, pool boma and tree house/viewing platform overlooking the river. Located approximately 16km from the centre of town the house gives easy access to Livingstone and the Victoria Falls, whilst also providing a tranquil and secure setting. Because the property is bounded by both the National Park and the Zambezi River there are frequent sightings of bushbuck, waterbuck, elephant, hippo, duiker, buffalo, cape clawless otter, vervet monkey and baboon. Night sightings have included spotted genet, scrub hare, thick tailed bush baby and porcupine. A recent bird survey listed over 180 species. If you enjoy walking there is plenty of opportunity to do so, both on the farm itself and, if water levels are low, on one of the nearby islands in the Zambezi. Accommodation can be on a bed and breakfast, half board or full board basis. The evening meal is a three course set meal and food is freshly prepared and home cooked. Whenever possible we use produce from our own organic garden and orchard, but sometimes the elephants and monkeys get there first. Outside the main house we have one bedroom situated over a studio in the orchard. This room is next to the outside washrooms and has balcony views over both the river and the bush. Meals can be taken at the main house or you can self cater.

Victoria Falls Livingstone Region Zambia

Victoria Falls Livingstone Region Accommodation
The spectacular Victoria Falls is known as the "greatest curtain of falling water" and originally as "the Smoke that Thunders" by the locals. It is a grand sight of awe-inspiring wonder on the Zambezi River, bordering Zimbabwe and Zambia.

Jumbo Williams, author of the book ‘Zambezi, River of Africa’, described the falls thus: ‘The first impression was unmistakable; immense power, the raw energy unleashed when the entire Zambezi leaps wildly into a black two kilometre wide abyss. The scale is massive, the spectacle spellbinding and perpetually changing. The falls hiss and roar as if possessed, they rumble and crash like thunder. Vast clouds spew and billow out from the seething cauldron of its dark impenetrable depths. The moving water creates a magnetism that sucks you closer, so that you recoil in horror to quench a subliminal sacrificial urge’.

To gain a full appreciation of the immense size of the Falls, one simply must see it from the air. Book a micro-light or fixed wing flight where the pilot will give you an unforgettable view of the breathtaking sight of this magnificent natural phenomena in all its glory.
