Colesberg is a traveler's oasis on the main routes to the coast and interior where the N1 and the N9 meet. In Bell Street, rich in history, we offer two- and one-bedroom private units with limited self-catering facilities, DSTV bouquet and lockup garages. Breakfast is provided on request. All our accommodation is pet and child friendly. Restaurants, museum, and shops are within walking distance. From its earliest days Colesberg has been a bustling town yet also a resting and meeting place. It became the gateway to the north for explorers and hunters, later for those adventurous enough in seeking their fortune on the Diamond and Goldfields. Colesberg today, is also the southern gateway to the Lake Xariep Tourist Route R58. This route R58 covers Gariepdam, Norvalspont, Venterstad, Oviston and Bethulie. The Colesberg-Kemper Museum with its 19th century toy collection and memorabilia is the permanent house to the UNISA Karoo Nomad Photographic Exhibition. Of interest are also the Anglo-Boer War and the Struggle rooms. Together with Anglo-Boer War sites and a fine selection of 19th century buildings Colesberg offers an exciting reflection on the past and present. In close proximity you can enjoy a nine-hole golf course with challenging Karoo fairways, well-maintained grass greens, aprons and well-equipped club house facilities. Other facilities in town include tennis courts, cycling and walking routes, the family and pet walking route, bird watching and unique sunrises and sunsets as only the Karoo has to offer. The Doornkloof Nature Reserve is approximately 45 km North-west of Colesberg around the confluence of the Zeekoei and Orange Rivers. We are in the middle of our country and the Gariep dam is 50 km away. Our guesthouse has 10 rooms most of them are family rooms with double and single beds. All the rooms have coffee and tea-making facilities and a fridge. The rooms also offer a heater, a fan, DStv and all rooms are en-suite. We have a playground for children and a swimming pool.

We are proud of the tame nature of the wild animals and strive enthusiastically to maintain this state of affairs in order that game may be viewed and photographed in their natural habitat at close range. The landscape consists mainly of vast open plains spread with numerous hillocks, hills and plateaus with magnificent stone outcrops. Guest accommodation comprises double bedroom suites, each with a private bathroom with a bath or a shower. A guest suite with an adjoining room are situated adjacent to the Manor House, making it an ideal family room. Between the Manor House and the Cottage, is a separate suite, adjacent to the swimming pool and the pool bar and games room. Quaggasfontein is currently home to two of the Big 5 game types that exist wild in Africa, namely the White rhino and the buffalo. Other species to be found include springbok, Red hartebeest, Blue wildebeest, Black wildebeest, eland, letchwe, Mountain zebra and impala. There are also sable, warthog, Mountain reedbuck, Common reedbuck, aardwolf, aardvark, caracal, and ostrich. It is 150 km from Calvinia in the south, and 150 km from Kenhardt in the north, making it an ideal halfway stop. The house can accommodate up to ten guests and comprises five bedrooms, two bathrooms, three toilets, and a kitchen, dining and living area. The kitchen is well-equipped and features a fridge, stove, microwave, coffee machine and all other necessities. On arrival there will be freshly baked bread, home-made jams, and coffee or tea. The establishment is self-catering, but meals can be arranged at very reasonable rates. The rooms are big and modern, fully carpeted, and nicely decorated. There is also a pool table to keep you entertained. The property is fully enclosed and is close to the police-station so it’s quite safe.

The guest house is situated in the centre of Colesberg, in a quite one-way street which runs parallel to the main road. The adjacent English-style Horse and Mill Pub and Restaurant is a beautifully restored coach house, built in 1840. The horse mill was erected on the Sewefontein farm in 1891 and was renovated and installed into the old coach house in 1977. Both the mill and the building which houses it have been declared National Monuments. Here you can quench your thirst with pint draft and feast on a wide variety of dishes in our restaurant. Karoo lamb dishes are our speciality, and English breakfasts can be served on request at R55.00 per person We offer eight en-suite rooms, each with ceiling fan, selected DStv, bar fridge, heater, electric blankets, and tea and coffee facilities. The guest house offers secure parking, debit and credit card facilities, and some rooms are also pet friendly. When next your journey takes you through Colesberg, saddle off at the Horse and Mill. It offers three comfortable, en-suite units which can sleep up to ten guests and a quiet retreat. The three units share a kitchenette equipped with cutlery, crockery, a fridge, cold farm water, ice, and a microwave oven, two ring stove with an oven, a kettle, fresh farm milk, teas, coffee, cremora and sugars. The two family units which each can sleep up to four guests have a built-in fireplace. All units have burglar bars, gauze-covered safety gates, wall heaters, hot water bottles and mobile fans. The main house offers two separate bed rooms; one with a double bed the other with two three-quarter beds which have to share a bathroom and a separate toilet. Meals are served in the main house; usually in the kitchen. The main house kitchen also offers a built-in braai. Enjoy a nice cool off in the splash pool or just relax in the spacious, well timbered garden with a book from our library. An outside braai is available. We are pet friendly. No smoking in any of the units. There are a lot of activities offered at the Bushman Rock Karoo Guesthouse such as bird watching or fishing, star gazing or a night drive and view nocturnal animals, game farm drives by prior arrangement, hippopotamus viewing by prior arrangement, participating in or experience real farm activities such as milking, dosing sheep, dipping, docking lamb’s tails, bottle feeding lambs an so forth. Stillewaters Self-Catering is a lovely old farm house on a working farm. The farm is only five kilometres from Richmond and the N1, en-route to Graaff Reinet. The three bedroom holiday home is the perfect stopover or getaway for weekends with families, friends, bird lovers, nature lovers, fans of country living, landscape photographers, writers or anyone seeking peace and quiet. This spacious house is booked for one group at a time upon request, alternatively the rooms are booked separately. It can comfortably sleep 10 people in the three bedrooms. The kitchen is fully-equipped. There is a sitting room with an indoor braai area, a dining room and an enclosed courtyard ideal for pets. There is also a separate outside braai area. Although from 1880, everything is in working order, clean and neat. Meals are available when requested in advance. There is a river that runs only a few meters from the house and a rainwater dam on the western side of the yard. All this water attracts numerous bird species, making for excellent bird watching and photography.
