Trompsburg is a true bit of Freestate history situated 2km off the N1 an hour's drive South of Bloemfontein.Many houses and civil buildings, like the town hall, give a glimpse of a time now gone.The Trompsburg High School building is a classic.Built just after the Anglo-Boer War it is sadly, slowly, falling into disrepair - like most of the older houses in town as well.The Waterwiel Bakkery on Jan Street is open to 9pm most days and it's well worth a visit for some home made goodies!Unfortunately, with the demise of SA agriculture, Trompsburg - like many other small towns - may become just a...see more

Small town quaint
We loved our stay at Fox Den. When driving through the town one is reminded of a time long past and this is what puts a delighted smile on ones face. The town felt very safe and calm. Went to the Beau Vista Motel for food and had one of the best pizzas. Trompsburg is a rough gem and should be enjoyed for that!
Unfortunately many of the towns in the platteland are suffering because the railways have gone bust. It was the lifeblood for these communities.I can remember that the school at Trompsburg used to have one of the top cadet detachments in the Free State and they won many trophies with their drill squad and drummies.
