Tenikwa Wildlife Awareness Centre offers guests the opportunity for a close, safe, inter-active encounter with indigenous cats of South Africa.

Guests will meet leopard, cheetahs, caracal, Serval, African wild cats and black-footed cats. The Tenikwa encounter is a great follow-on to a game reserve or safari experience to study these beautiful creatures at close quarters.

Tenikwa also has a Meerkat Meander where visitors can see meerkats and tortoises and there is also a variety of indigenous waterfowl, Blue Cranes and Marabou Storks to delight bird watchers.

Programs include one hour guided tours and cheetah walks. Entrance fees fund Tenikwa’s NPO Wildlife Rehabilitation and Release Programme.

Open 09:00 – 17:00 daily 365 days a year, including Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Amenities include a tea garden for light meals, parking, wheelchair friendly, Mothers Corner and liquor licence.

Well worth a visit! - We visited this little Wildlife Awareness Centre during the December holidays and we found the visit really worthwhile. The staff are friendly and the guides very knowledgeable. The groups are small and we were taken inside most of the enclosures although we were not allowed any contact with the cats. We got some great photographs. Well recommended!

Cheetah attack - Hello, My name is Daniel, I am from Brazil. I spent my last vacation in south africa, including 4 days in Plettenberg bay. I enjoy the period that I spent in south africa and Plett was one of the best places. Unfortunately, I had a very bad experience in Tenikwa and I want to share with you to avoid that someone else be exposed at the same situation. On November 25 I did the cheetah walking in Tenikwa with 3 friends and 3 other people. We were 7 in total, although the maximum number of visitors in each cheetah walking are 6. During the walking, after drinking water, one adult male cheetah got free from the leads and from the guide and come to the group of people. It attacked me three times. The attack lasted about 20 -30 seconds but it was enough to injured my legs with 8 stitches. I think that Tenikwa do not provide enough security. The cheetah got free from the leads easily and one of the guides was not enough experienced to deal with it. She could not control the animal properly. Hopefully I am ok now, but it could be much worst.Best regards, Daniel.
