Rustenburg is a small, quiet town situated at the foot of the Magaliesberg mountain range in the North West Province. It boasts one of the biggest stadiums in South Africa, the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace, which hosted the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Founded in 1851, Rustenburg is rich in historical culture and is the oldest town in the former Transvaal province. The Rustenburg Museum in the Town Hall, the Anglican Church built in 1871, and the Dutch Reformed Church are all great places to visit if you’re interested in history.

There is an 18-hole golf course and many hiking trails for visitors to explore. The Kgaswane Mountain Reserve is a beautiful escape for a mountain retreat with plenty of wildlife to see and around 300 bird species. Visitors can swim in the natural pools, enjoy some great food at the designated picnic spots, or sit next to the breathtaking waterfall. There are even overnight hiking trails, which are roughly 20 km long, but need to be booked in advance.

The Rustenburg Nature Reserve is over 4500 ha with a large and impressive valley and a typically South African bushveld comprising various types of fynbos, grassland and scrub. There are many tree and bush species as well as duiker, reedbuck, kudu, and the rarely seen leopard and brown hyena. The reserve has around 250 bird species and rocky slopes to explore.

The Rustenburg Ramble is perfect for country-style shopping and eating. It offers a variety of craft galleries, farm stalls and quaint little places to eat at. If you want to experience a truly unique dining experience Brauhaus am Damm is the place to go to. This micro-brewery is set in the mountains and offers the finest freshly brewed German beer and a large variety of traditional German dishes, all the while overlooking the beautiful dam.

Once you’ve had enough of game viewing, hiking and eating, be sure to visit the Sparkling Waters Spa for a relaxing massage or soak in the magnificent indoor heated pool.

Why I love Rustenburg
I love visiting Rustenburg because it has both the farming and urban communities, and offers a lot of produce for the visitor to buy when leaving.

Rustenburg grown
Rustenburg has grown in the past few years into a larger city. I was impressed with the amount of amenities available. the Waterfall Mall is of a world class and it makes a difference in the mining community.

Experiencing Rustenburg
Found it to be a bustling, busy, noisy and not so clean city centre. The outlying suburbs were mostly pleasant and relatively quiet with strong developing town-house complexes. Some very beautiful private dwellings with large, both primary and secondary schools. The influence of the mines at these schools can clearly be experienced with the facilities that are present.Sport clubs are also srongly mine-supported and there again the mines in the area play a significant part. The proximity to Sun City and the surrounding game lodges and farms are probably the main attraction / reason for wanti...

Rustenburg - the home where the heart is...
Rustenburg, the fastest growing city in South Africa and also the city that I was born in and love...Best known attractions in the area that are all within striking distance of Rustenburg itself, is:Kgaswane Game Reserve is situated above the town of Rustenburg across a varied habitat of quartzite mountain peaks. Madikwe Game Reserve and Groot Marico Park are huge reserves north of the Pilansberg , almost half the size of Belgium. Madikwe hosts all the major plains species, including the Big Five and has the second largest concentration of elephants in South Africa.Sun City and the Lost City...

Please tell me what attraction is there to Rustenburg?
From what we saw I cannot see what Rustenburg has to offer at all besides Waterfall Mall and mushrooming townhouse complexes! We found it ugly and very industrial! Only attraction is most probably because it is near Sun City.
