Paternoster Reviews

Paternoster is not so holy anymore....
Unfortunately Paternoster has swollen out of all proportion since the last time I visited six years' ago.It is now just a tourist destination, and I would not really want to go too often. The beach is lovely and there are a couple of great restaurants such as the Noisy Oyster and Square Spoon, but otherwise I would prefer to be somewhere not so cash-orientated and where life is gentle and pleasant. Altogether too snobbish, busy, full of 4x4s and Lexus cars, and very expensive.

Peace and quiet
We are regular city-slickers and love the buzz and frenzy and if that's what you're looking for, please don't set foot in Paternoster. But if you need to get away from it all or just like tranquility, then this is the place to be. We loved our stay in Paternoster and couldn't fault the place at all. The views, the calm water, the white-washed houses, all of it makes you want to slow down and smell the coffee... the quaint restaurants, local hotel, friendliness of the locals, untouched beaches and the overall feeling of being transported back in time is just wonderful.Would go back there in a...

Paternoster
I was a bit disappointed with Paternoster: maybe because of all the great reviews. The accommodation is very expensive, the crime is exceptionally high and the place has become commercialised. We paid a 50% deposit and then got told that we need to pay R500 additional for a no breakage fee (I have no problem with this). The problem I have is that 11 days later the no breakage fee has not been repaid. Paternoster is a very popular destination and is booked to the brim every weekend with visitors, taking into account all the deposits the Stay In Paternoster travel agency is pocketing interest...

Unspoilt paradise
Paternoster is still truly a fishing village. Although development has occurred, Paternoster seems to have managed it well in that the new blends in with the old. I drove around to take a look at development since I had last been there, and it is truly wonderful to see such creativity while still keeping to the spirit of a small beach village. The monitors appear on the beach as the boats come in to ensure responsible fishing, kids appear at the local store for sweets and snacks after school. Support the locals make a living - buy handmade wall decorations made from sea-shells. The Council...
