Nkwichi Lodge is a hidden hand-built lodge situated on the beautiful shores of Lake Niassa, at one of the most beautiful points on the lake and a rare chance to savour an unspoilt corner of real Africa. The lake's fresh water is crystal clear and contains a greater variety of indigenous fish species than any other lake in the world. Each of our chalets has been carefully tucked away in the tree line so that the pristine lake-shore scenery is unspoilt. The lodge has been carefully designed to provide comfort and privacy for all guests, with the highest levels of service in a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere. Flexibility and attention to detail is our ultimate goal in providing excellent service for your stay. The lodge is located at the foot of the escarpment in the Rift Valley, meaning that it only takes a few minutes to walk up behind the lodge, gain some height and look out over the lake towards Malawi. The scenery varies enormously as you move inland from the lakeshore through acacia woodland, grassy plains bordered by streams and rivers, and past deep rocky gorges. Explore the area on foot, by canoe and in sailing dhows or just laze in a hammock above a secluded cove. The Lakeshore Deck is a popular place to have breakfast each morning, sitting under the shade of the large fig tree eating fresh mangos and homemade muesli while gazing out across the blue water. If you are busy with activities away from the lodge, delicious picnics will be provided wherever your guide takes you.

Domwe Island is the largest unpopulated island in Lake Malawi, with a circumference of 11 km and a highest point of 400 m above lake level. It is separated from the main land by the narrow Ilala Gap which, due to fluctuations in lake level over the millennia, has been dry on several occasions. As a result, Domwe Island, unlike all other Lake Malawi islands, is well populated with mammals which have migrated to the island during these dry times. Domwe Island Adventure Camp is basic, yet exclusive. It lies behind a small beach on the island’s west side. The camp is run on a self-catering basis and guests can make use of the kitchen facilities to prepare their own meals. The kitchen is fully equipped with fridges, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery. Accommodation consists of three fully furnished safari tents and two tent sites, complemented by a dining area with bar and a water sports gazebo. Domwe Island is part of the Lake Malawi National Park and Domwe Island Camp is a member of the Wilderness Safaris Portfolio.

Nestled around a secluded cove on the Sangilo peninsula, Sangilo Sanctuary Lodge provides an idyllic escape to the lake in northern Malawi. This is a place where good food, a friendly bar and stunning scenery can be enjoyed in peace, along with the enchanting secret beach, unique rock caves and crystal clear waters. Fresh fish are brought in daily by fishermen in dugout canoes and frequently appear on the simple, carefully prepared, menu. Fishermen, swimmers and snorkelers will love the warm waters of Lake Malawi, with its amazing variety of fish. We have three boats for hire;a catamaran for sailors, a dinghy with outboard and a power boat for fishing trips, water skiing or cruises. Sangilo Sanctuary Lodge has introduced the first all-terrain quad bikes in Malawi to give visitors the freedom to explore the natural beauty of the surroundings from a different perspective. We also have a pair of mountain bikes for hire.
