Late arrivals with proof of valid emergency reason are only allowed until 21:00 for guests who have pre-booked accommodation at certain camps. Self-Drive Safaris in Kruger
It's best to plan your route carefully and try not to cover too much distance. The Kruger National Park is best done slowly with frequent stops to see wildlife and the action at waterholes and lookouts. Check out our guide to driving distances and travel times between gates and camps here: Kruger Gates to Camps Distances.
Petrol and Diesel
All main camps in Kruger have facilities for filling up with petrol and diesel. Payment method at these fuel stations is strictly cash or fuel and garage cards. Credit or debit cards are not accepted for payment.
Restaurants and Shops
Most of the rest camps have shops and restaurant facilities. Credit and debit cards can be used for payment.
Banks and Money
Skukuza is the only rest camp that has bank facilities - open from Monday to Friday and on Saturday morning. There are ATMs at Skukuza and Letaba but these occasionally run out of cash or are out of order.
MALARIA
Although the risk of malaria in Kruger National Park is generally low even during the rainy summer season, it does fall within a malaria zone. The best prevention is to not get bitten, especially over the higher risk period between November and April. Overnight guests should be vigilant to prevent mosquito bites between dusk and dawn. Visitors who fall in the high risk patient group should please contact their medical practitioner. 24-Hour Malaria Hotline: +27 (0)82 234 1800.
