Hoedspruit is a bush town. What that means is that it’s the closest urban centre to a huge number of game lodges, and every second person in town is wearing khaki and driving a big four-by-four. A real, dusty four-by-four, not those shiny urban versions. Hoedspruit is close to the Kruger National Park and a whole lot of private game reserves, so most of the attractions round town are of the safari variety. There is an absolutely superb horseback safari in a Big Five reserve, a great rafting trip on the Olifants River and an elephant-back safari. There are numerous animal breeding and rehabilitation centres around Hoedspruit, which are open to tourists.

A fascinating reptile park offers a look at a whole range of snakes and other creepy crawlies. They even offer a desensitising course for people with snake or spider phobias. There is a silk farm, which you can tour and then buy all manner of indulgent delights. There are some great guest houses and lodges in and around Hoedspruit and the town, although small, has sufficient shops, restaurants and other infrastructure to satisfy most needs.

Gateway to Kruger
The town of Hoedspruit has everything you need to prepare for a holiday in Kruger. The town is clean and as it is so close to the Orpen gate, I recommend you stay over before entry and buy everything you need fresh from the shops in town! No WW but a very nice P'nP.

Go wild in Hoedspruit!
Hoedspruit is best known for its perfect location surrounded by Private Game Reserves and only 40 minutes drive to Kruger National Park. It is an all year round destination because the climate is sub-tropical with mild, dry winters.

Ndlovumzi Nature Reserve
Game Reserve of Hoedspruit

Ndlovumzi Nature Reserve
This is a large, privately owned game reserve, about 45 minutes drive from Hoedspruit. Once inside the gate, you are free to roam the reserve on your own day or night game drives. Lots of game, giraffe, zebra, kudu, monkeys and baboons, ostrich, etc. Camps inside Ndlovumzi are hot wire fenced from threst of preserve, keeping unwanted animals away. Some properties or directly on the Olifants river, and experience nightime visits by hippos. Elephants have been know to walk the river. This is a quiet, get away bushcamp-for people wanting to get away from it all. Close enough to make a day...

Summer place-Hoedspruit
Hoedspruit is awesome, it is the only place where you dont need a jersey in wintertime, where you can sit outside winter or summer and wherever you are, hear how the Hieenas are calling, most nights you can listen to the lions as well, there is no sunrise anywhere, like in Hoedspruit, you havent seen a Sunset if you havent been in Hoedspruit it is awsome the best place in the world........ Ons was drie keer in die park en om die chery op die koek te sit het ons nog op Sabie gaan forel vang ook. So daar was net te veel om te doen en te min dae. Hoedspruit is in die middel van...

Weekend in Hoedspruit
The scenery is lovely, bush, river and mountains. There are lovely eating places where you could just chill. There is enough to see in terms of game, Jessica the Hippo, Boabab Trees, Fruit Farms and many other activities and sights. One could just rest and be peaceful and take in all the bird life.I would go back to Hoedspruit, it had a good feel.

Fantastic location with a real bush feeling
We travel once or twice a year to South Africa and we like coming back to Hoedspruit. It's a fantastic place with a real bush feeling, not too big and with a Pick 'n Pay and Spar if you are staying on a self-catering basis.
