The pretty seaside village of Gordon's Bay with its lovely beaches lies at the foot of the Helderberg Mountains.

Bikini Beach is the most popular beach for sun tanning, swimming and surfing, particularly with Stellies students (University of Stellenbosch). Explore the Old Harbour with its flotilla of fishing boats and yachts or the busy Harbour Island waterfront development with its many restaurants.

If you want to escape from crowds, head to Steenbras Dam for a picnic with awesome views over Gordon's Bay and False Bay. From Gordon's Bay to Pringle Bay there is a spectacular coastal drive with excellent whale spotting opportunities during season.

I loved Gordons Bay. Very central and lots to do. And what a beautiful place. Just love it. Just the parking is a bit of a problem but it was December. Very busy.

Where would you rather want to be.....
Gordons Bay has always had its own charm for me. It is such a traditional quaint beach town. The beach promenade shops - selling shells and "Afrikaans Books" the soft serve ice cream places, the Pub across the road from the beach and of course the Sea Food takeways (do NOT miss Trawlers!! Best calamari in the WORLD!!)Bikini Beach is one of my favourite spots in the world and I have spent many an hour playing beach bats and beach volleyball on this little gem. The views - particularly from the area above Bikini Beach - are breathtaking and the sunsets are priceless!! You cannot be in Gordo...

Friendly Gordons Bay
Gordons Bay is a lovely and relaxed environment for any person wishing to break away from city life. It has such a professional approach to people on vacation, that my family and I return there year after year. The sight seeing and facilities (for us) are more than ample for our requirements and we always return to Stilfontein, having been drained of all day-to-day stresses and worries.

Gordons Bay, the way it is ment to be
Gordons Bay is a true authentic village, just perfectly situated to explore the area of Franschhoek, Stellenbosch, the Coastal area and the Winelands. You find one of the best blue flagged beaches near the old Harbour were you can have a perfect fish food. Just near Gordons Bay you can visit the beautiful winery of Waterkloof and Journey's End. Looking for an authentic, relaxed and affordable holiday you are at the right place in Gordons Bay.

Still Olde World charm
Gordons Bay still enjoys a certain Old World charm not seen anymore in the more commercialized bigger coastal towns. It has a very friendly vibe with the people more than willing to oblige.

A Gem in False Bay
A wonderful place in the Western Cape that has mostly escaped commercialisation. A sense of the old cape magic prevails.

Return visit to Gordon's Bay
My return visit to Gordon's Bay after 10 years was slightly disappointing. The area is spoiled by enormous amounts of litter. The beaches were very dirty and there are very few refuse bins for holiday makers to use. I was shocked by the amount of old plastic waste washed up on the beaches. It would be great if someone within the community could come up with an anti litter campaign during peak season Try to educate the children on the beaches while they are out having fun.... The water at the beaches was also very smelly. Not a "sea smell", but rather that of decay and sewerage.

Quietly unique
Gordon's Bay is like a quiet cul de sac - nothing much happens there, and that's a good thing and a bad thing, depending. It's full of local character (and oddball characters), has gorgeous views and fine weather most of the time, and is cheaper to stay in than Somerset West or Strand. Getting to Cape Town takes about an hour each way, and it's well off the wine route, so it's not a good choice as a centre of operations. The beach is rocky, with lovely rock pools, and there are some classic pubs strung along the beachfront.
