With spectacular unobstructed views of the sea and coastline, Voorhuis harmoniously blends in with its natural habitat. The interior reflects a delightful fusion of rustic and elegance, with cement floors inlaid with peach pips and crystal chandeliers suspended from reed ceilings. Time here flows by effortlessly, marked only by the changing of the tides, the sun, the moon, and stars. Listen to the sound of the breaking waves and the harsh calls of the seagulls and watch the dolphins and whales pass by. Wind your way down the steps to the shore, breathe in the fresh salty air, feel the cool breeze on your face, and taste true happiness. Voorhuis is a thatched house perched on a dune, situated in a Western Cape fynbos nature reserve overlooking the Indian Ocean. The house sleeps eight people in three en-suite bedrooms with sea views. Features include a bar, DStv, DVD, Hi-Fi, washing machine, microwave, indoor barbecue and fireplace, and outdoor barbecue area.

Safe, peaceful, stunning views, great affordability. Peace and tranquility like you've never experienced before. Conveniently situated between Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, close enough to enjoy all the activities in and around the area. Abundant with bird life, protea and fynbos. You can be assured of great safety and security, as there are virtually no people/car/bike traffic passing through, maybe the occasional cyclist, 270 hectares of open spaces to breathe. Go on one of our walks (down to the Bitou River or easy walks on the farm). Book a silver service, gourmet picnic at our special, purposely built, and romantic picnic area with stunning views. Or ask the big question.... Relax next to the pool with only the sounds of silence (or nature) around you. All accommodation has pool facilities. Bring your mountain bike and explore the farm as well as the mountain bike trails through the Knysna forest a few kilometres away. Forest horse rides and quad bike rides available on a neighbouring farm. See another neighbour milking hundreds of cows a day (buy your milk there if you want) or book a sumptuous cheese and local wine lunch with our wine making neighbour. Pick your own bunch of Protea and Fynbos. Order a picnic basket and enjoy at your leisure. Wireless internet access at reception/manager’s office or on the shaded patio. I confirm that we are about 22 km from Knysna and Plett, about 25 min drive from both. 13 km on the N2 from either side, then about 9 km inland (good gravel). Suited to normal sedan motors.

A Farm Story Country House

A Farm Story was born from a tradition that believes that a story speaks to the soul and the heart. History and fond memories were transferred into a country house in 2008. We invite you to experience an old Farmhouse Story. Historical points: The Country House was originally known as Oom Tom se huis. The country house was established in the early 1800’s on the farm Klein Soebattersvlakte. During the most southern battle (Anglo boer war 1901) the stables were used as a hospital. The first ever gravel road between Riversdale and Stilbaai was built on the farm and is still in use today. The famously known store Oom Boet se Winkel was the only general dealer in the 1900’s. What awaits you: today’s accommodation in yesterday’s style and traditional hospitality. Braai facilities. Guided tour to the cheese factory on the farm, including cheese tasting.

Horse riding for both the novice or experienced rider can be arranged at the nearby 'Equitrailing', some 10 minutes' drive away.

The Ruiterbosch valley is centrally located in the foothills of the Outeniqua mountains. When one drives on the R328 from Oudtshoorn, and descends the Robinson Pass, even the most jaded traveller is surprised at the sudden change in scenery and climate. The hot and dry Karoo has been replaced by beautiful forest shrouded in mist with the Indian Ocean glittering in the distance. Most motorists accelerate at this point to reach Mossel Bay, scarcely 30 km away. The less hasty will, however, stop at either the nearby hotel or at the newly opened Ruiterbosch Lodge for refreshments or to just sit back and admire one of the most scenic spots on earth. The owner of Ruiterbosch Lodge, Ernest Collett has travelled widely (over 40 countries) and was living in exotic India when, during a holiday in South Africa, he stumbled on this beautiful valley and found an old Cape cottage and stables that has been converted to a guest house and wedding venue. Discerning travellers, who appreciate nature, would love to make this their base for exploring the Oudtshoorn, Cango caves and Garden Route area.

Garden Route South Africa

Garden Route Country House Accommodation

Dramatic river cut gorges, beautiful beaches, rocky headlands and deep tangled forests are the quintessential Garden Route images. Stretching from anywhere between Stilbaai and Mossel Bay in the west, to Stormsriver or Port Elizabeth (PE) in the east, it's a gorgeous stretch of coastal paradise strung out along the N2. Purists will squash it up between Mossel Bay and Stormsriver but, as the popularity of the Garden Route grew and small towns at its edge realised the marketing potential, it just seemed to spread. No problem - it spread to some cool places.

The towns generally accepted to be part of the Garden Route are Mossel Bay, George, Wilderness, Sedgefield, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay and Stormsriver. Stilbaai and Albertinia have snuck in on the West and Humansdorp and even Port Elizabeth are muscling in from the east. Inland, the Little Karoo and Route 62, which have no pretensions to being the Garden Route, are often treated as the same destination, as it's pretty easy zigzag between them by driving the many scenic passes over the Outeniqua Mountains. Initially the Garden Route was seen as very much a beach and/or family holiday destination, which it is, but there is also so much to do. There's great hiking, with rambles ranging from an hour to a few days covering rocky coasts, deep forests, pretty fynbos and long sandy beaches. The diving is good, as is the surfing, and there are some fun sea kayaking and flat water paddling trips. Some of the country's best mountain bike trails snake through the forests, and there are horse trails for every taste and level of ability. Tandem skydiving, paragliding, and a range of scenic flights all offer different birds eye views.

The Garden Route offers some of the best boat based whale watching in the world, flower lovers and birders will also have a field day traipsing off through the forest or the fynbos, and there are numerous national parks and nature reserves. Steam buffs will love the narrow gauge Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe. For the more culturally inclined, there are township tours, museums, lovely old buildings, funky craft shops, markets, art galleries and loads of live music venues. And, of course, a flotilla of great restaurants - many of which specialise in seafood - in each town. The Garden Route is a golfer's dream destination - you could play a different course every day for a week and still have a few left over.

Of course, this is not all good news as golf courses use an exorbitant amount of water and take up vast amounts of space but, as long as the golf-estate-building spree fizzles out soon, there should be sufficient space remaining between the fairways for a bit of forest, perhaps some shops and even a house or two. But that's not your problem, is it? If you fancy a round in paradise, get in now before it closes down. And if golf is too slow for you - there are more international standard polo fields in Plett alone than there are in the rest of the country put together. You could spend anything from a weekend to a month at a tailor-made polo clinic.

But what the Garden Route is most suitable for is relaxation - and even that's been somewhat institutionalised with almost every second hotel housing a wellness centre or spa. Not that that's a problem, mind. After a hard day on the beach you'll probably need a chocolate mud bath, colour therapy or hot stone massage.

Dramatic river cut gorges, beautiful beaches, rocky headlands and deep tangled forests are the quintessential Garden Route images. Stretching from anywhere between Stilbaai and Mossel Bay in the west, to Stormsriver or Port Elizabeth (PE) in the...
