The purpose of the Grootberg Lodge is not only to offer professional service, great surroundings, extremely good food, well-trained guides and exceptionally good local management but, at the same time, to benefit the local community with revenue generated by the lodge. Each of the 14 en-suite rock chalets and two family chalets are built from the local rocks that occur around Grootberg. The bedrooms have either twin or double beds and en-suite bathrooms with showers and separate toilets. Rooms are adorned with local materials, all part of the décor. Sliding doors lead to small, private decks with two chairs each from where the endless views over Klip Valley Vlei can be enjoyed. The main building is through a long, arched hallway, leading into the lounge area where guests can relax. There is also a small bar and and classic wooden tables and chairs for dining. Tea and coffee is served daily. The swimming pool is right outside the main area. 12 000 hectares have been set aside by the Khoadi/Hoas community for conservation and tourism and it is through this pristine wilderness that you meander either on foot or by vehicle to encounter the inhabitants of this remote biosphere. Our knowledgeable guide will help guests enjoy the local flora, the amazing rock formations of the Etendeka Mountains and the shy wild animals.

Epupa Camp consists of nine luxury Safari-style Tents erected on stone platforms, each with two single beds and an en-suite bathroom. All of the tents have electricity and mosquito netting and an outside, shaded balcony overlooking the tranquil Kunene River. Large makalani palms overhead provide welcome shade from the midday sun. A minimum stay of two nights, ideally three, is recommended to fully benefit from everything the Epupa area has to offer. The adjacent dining room and lounge area also face the Kunene River, along with a lounging pool for cooling down from the midday heat or enjoying a glass of sparkling wine while watching the sun set. Our five exclusive campsites, under huge ana and makalani trees, allow for a camping in a secluded, shady and quiet corner along the Kunene River. Our campsites combine the use of local material with pleasing attention to detail to allow for a most memorable stay in Namibia. Each campsite has a river view and has private ablution facilities, consisting of a shower with warm and cold water, flush toilets and two hand basins, a braai area, and a sink for dishes. The campsites are spacious to easily allow a group of ten guests with five vehicles with off-road trailers or caravans. Campers are ensured of falling asleep to the sounds of only the rapids of the Kunene River, nocturnal animals and birds. Camping guests are welcome to use the Epupa Camp facilities. Meals and activities can be booked with the camp management upon arrival. The local community sells firewood at the campsite and also offers a laundry service. Our staff can assist you to negotiate this with the community. Our campsite is situated about 1 km, an easy walk, from the Epupa Falls. You can meander along the river bank or through the village. Enquire at check-in about self-hiking trails and guided trails. Epupa Camp offers a wide range of activities that give you a rare opportunity to explore this fascinating corner of the world, including visits to a Himba settlement, sundowner sunset drives, rafting, bird-watching boat trips, and visits to Epupa Falls.

In the foothills of the Grootberg massif, in stunning scenery set amidst the ancient Etendeka lava flows of northern Damaraland, you will find Etendeka Mountain Camp. Here the ancient basalt has been slowly eroded over millennia, leaving scattered boulders lying upon dramatic flat-topped mountains. The emphasis here is on nature, and this eco-friendly camp bears testimony to her many riches. Accommodation is in ten en-suite meru tents, which are connected by pathways to the main dining tent. Extensive use is made of solar power throughout, both in the kitchen and the guest bathrooms, as well as for general electricity requirements. Necessary comforts have not been overlooked though, and these include flush toilets, hot-and-cold running water and the stunning open-air bucket showers. Simple, fresh, wholesome meals are prepared, either on solar or on open fires, and enjoyed under African skies. Your days here are spent exploring the area on foot and in open game drive vehicles with the exceptionally knowledgeable guides. This is not a fast paced safari, but rather a privileged introduction to an environment that holds many of Namibia’s unique natural attractions.
