Located in the magical Oliphant’s River Valley, Clanwilliam Lodge is a colloquial gem emerging off the beaten track, oasis-like in its unforgiving semi-desert habitat. Only a two hours’ drive from Cape Town, the lodge offers 32 luxurious air-conditioned rooms, a poolside restaurant, a treatment room and delicious cuisine. All rooms are luxuriously air-conditioned and have en-suite bathrooms. Junior and Presidential Suites have the option of a balcony. All our suites have showers and baths, and all other rooms are fitted with showers. Our Premiere Rooms and suites have DVD players and DVD rentals are available. Our conference facilities can cater for up to 30 delegates. The beauty salon offers treatments such as facials, massages and manicures. Come and spoil yourself. Visitors should prepare to enjoy balmy summer days lounging on Bedouin daybeds at the pool and hot windless nights in pure understated luxury. This is where half measures are only available on request from the bar. A hearty buffet breakfast is served in the restaurant every morning and is included in your stay. Choose from our light lunch menu and dinner is either á la carte or an extensive buffet spread. Picnic hampers are available on request, or experience the nearby Lambert’s Bay eatery called Muisbosskerm for a sublime seafood treat. Founded in 1732, the picturesque Cape Dutch homestead of Clanwilliam is one of the 10 oldest towns in the country. Tucked away at the foot of the Cederberg Mountains and perched on one of the country’s favourite dams, its rich settler history offers a central location for a variety of attractions from flower viewing to Bushman art and a range of water sports. In keeping with the rich history of the area, Clanwilliam Lodge itself is a transformed girls’ hostel, originally built by the Provincial Administration in 1916. Much of the furnishings in the lodge are made from wood from the original building. Clanwilliam is also famous for growing and cultivating Rooibos Tea and for its original leather “veldskoene” factory. Clanwilliam is 212 km from Cape Town and a two-hour drive by car.

    Cederberg Wedding Venues Accommodation

The Cederberg Wilderness Area is a magical and mysterious place. It is an area of immense physical beauty that merits its inclusion as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites within the Cape Floristic Region.

Haunting rock paintings leave the spiritual and social legacy of the Bushmen, nomadic hunter-gatherers who lived here thousands of years ago until recently. Cape leopard quietly pad the craggy landscape. Rare Snow Proteas bloom on the highest peaks and the near-extinct Clanwilliam Cedar Trees cling vicariously to remote slopes.

Vast and secluded, this stunning mountain reserve beckons nature lovers and adventure seekers with numerous hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking and swimming opportunities. If you’re not into extreme hiking or looking for a hike with a difference, try one of the fully inclusive Cape Heritage Route hiking trails. These slackpacking routes are a community initiative and guided by locals who share their rich knowledge of the Cederberg. If you’re on a quick visit, don’t miss viewing the accessible spectacular rock paintings and formations at Stadsaal.

During springtime the countryside around Clanwilliam and Wupperthal bursts into bloom, becoming places of pilgrimage for locals and tourists alike. The Clanwilliam Flower Festival is worthwhile, and so is a visit to the pretty Ramskop Wildflower Garden.
