Our experience of Vredehoek was not as good as the last contributor. While it is conveniently situated and with beautiful views, we received unfriendly service at Seven Eleven Vredehoek and milk that was off, despite being within the BB date. We went to Deer Park cafe on the day before Christmas. The only one in the party who chose the Ciabatta with chicken mayonaise, commented it tasted funny and was up all night and suffered most of Christmas day. Fortunately Click's pharmacy in Garden's Centre was open and were able to assist. Otherwise we enjoyed our short stay and will definitely try again next Christmas.

Grabbing a delicious bite to eat and an ice cold beer on Derry Street is one of the amazing pleasures that Cape Town has to offer all visitors and locals. But its not just the food and beer that captures the soul of Vredehoek, its the locals. “Vredehoekers” are friendly, down to earth and always up for a good chat to strangers. After a wonderful night out you can take in a beautiful walk up Deer Park, take the kids for breakfast to the Deer Park cafe, enjoy the best coffee or cup cakes in Cape Town at Lazzari's coffee shop or even enjoy a magnificent bike ride all the way to Rhodes Memorial on off road dedicated mountain bike tracks. Beware of the "Cape Doctor" though that will knock you off your feet in the middle of Summer, it serves it's purpose to keep the air clean and the vibes good…at least that's the way that we see it anyway.
