Traffic in December is a problem. The facilities are more than adequate. The beach is a bit cramped later in the day but still a nice beach. The fact that the beach was not clean from the flood drift wood reduce the beach area and was a bad sight and ad for the town.

The beach at Uvongo is cramped. We found it best to go early and leave before the crowds. Maybe this is the case for most beaches in December though.

We loved our stay but we did not enjoy the fact that there was an event on the beach for 2 days. The beach is to smalll for us, and the competitors.Would you consider doing it during non-school-holidays.?Watching the whales and the dolphins were absolutely amazing! We returned home, well rested. Thank you.

Named after the Ivungu river, Uvongo is a picturesque town offering beautiful scenery, vibrant restaurants, nature reserves, popular fishing spots and is best known for its awe-inspiring waterfall that falls into the lagoon on a beach surrounded by foliage covered rock escarpments.
This unique beach, shark netted and manned by lifeguards is protected from the wind and comes complete with a gorge, waterfall, lagoon, tidal pool, swimming pool, restaurant and hawkers plying curios and craft. Uvongo is host to the Uvongo Bird Park with walk-through aviaries and tea garden, a selection of sporting fields and facilities, numerous popular restaurants and pubs, shops and grocery stores - all within walking distance - making it a bustling holiday town with a lot to offer its visitors.
Uvongo offers one of the best swimming beaches on the coast, even after having most of the beach washed away during the storms of 2008..
Also on offer is snorkelling, pedal boats and fantastic fishing from the pier and rocks.

If you don't take leave every year, you want to make the most of it when you do. Being able to handle all the admin online, leaves only the pleasantries. The accommodation was luxurious, clean and nothing lacked. The view was amazing and I already have another breakaway booked on my calander.

Uvongo se strand is baie veilig. Die meer maak dit ook lekker om met die bootjies te ry. Die winkels is naby as jy net gou vinnig iets wil gaan koop en as jy in 'n Mall wil gaan rondloop, is daar een naby.

Uvongo is a small sea side town wedged between Margate and Shelly Beach on the Lower South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. This area is known as The Paradise of the Zulu Kingdom, and it is easy to understand why.
As a beach holiday destination, Uvongo offers a beautiful beach with a 23 m high waterfall within 200 m of the beach, and a stunning lagoon. The swimmer has a choice of the sea, lagoon or tidal pool and all within 300 m of each other. The beach has life guards ensuring safe bathing, a grassed picnic area, kiddies paddling pool, a restaurant with magnificent sea views to accompany the good food, a café and changing and toilet facilities – all positioned within 100 m of the large parking area.
Inland, Uvongo’s small CBD offers the basic shopping facilities – SPAR, chemist, ATMs, hairdressers, launderettes, book exchange and a garage. There are 8 restaurants and pubs within easy walking distance. As a holiday maker you can park your car at one of the many holiday accommodation spots and walk everywhere.
The Uvongo Bird Park is the only bird sanctuary on the coast, and the Skyline Nature Reserve boasts beautiful indigenous plants and numerous birds and small buck. The Vunguo River walk is one of the best kept secrets of the area, and the gentle stroll along the banks of the Vungu River takes you to a birders paradise.
Active sports enthusiasts can play bowls, squash, tennis, jog, cycle – road and mountain bike – and walk, all within the towns’ borders.
Fishermen from all over the country visit Uvongo for beach, rock and lagoon fishing, especially during Shad season and the Sardine Run. Deep-sea fishing charters are available from Shelly Beach – 5 km away.
Uvongo’s central position on the coast makes it the ideal hub for exploring the coast from Hibberdene (20km away) in the North to the Wild Coast (40km away) in the South and inland to Oribi (40km away). This tourism triangle includes 7 quality golf courses, hiking trails, almost 100 eating places, coffee shops, night clubs, bars, beaches and more beaches, unique quality craft outlets, a coffee farm, banana farms, a crocodile farm, nature reserves, beautiful scenic drives, nurseries, a miniatures museum, a number of shopping centers’, a game reserve, abseiling, white water rafting, the highest gorge swing in Africa, a 4.5km Zip Line tour over Oribi Gorge, paint ball, 4 x 4 trails, horse riding, Oribi gorge, a suspension bridge, and more beaches, picture and fine art galleries.
Add to this Mother Nature’s contribution of over 200 species of birds, whales, the sardines and great weather, and it is easy to understand the boast of the Paradise of the Zulu Kingdom.

We go here every year, it's great compared to Margate. It is a pity the beach is a bit small, but it beats Margate with their fixed rental umbrellas with the shadow of all things by miles. Great little place.
