With the rich blessing of earth and elements, the help of a dedicated workforce, the enthusiasm of winemaker Josef Dreyer and the advantages of a modern gravity flow cellar, Piet Dreyer produces his award-winning Raka wines. The East London Coast Nature Reserve merges ten coastal reserves and two inland state forests. These protected areas are set between the Great Kei River in the north-east and the Tylomnqa River in the south-west. It’s an awesome spot to spend a family holiday or just enjoy chilling on the stunning beaches. Active types will find that there’s so much to do along this lovely coast. Multi-day hikes, nature walks, horse trails and fishing tend to be the most popular activities. From north-east to south-west the parks include Cape Morgan, Double Mouth, Cape Henderson, Chintsa West, Kwelera, Nahoon, Cove Rock or Gulu, Kidd's Beach, Kayser's Beach and Chalumna. These reserves occupy 57% of the 250-kilometre coastline between between the two rivers. Umtiza Forest and Fort Pato Forest are situated inland on the northern banks of the Buffalo River 14 kilometres and 25 kilometres north of East London.

Maclear Beach lies just off the Cape of Good Hope, the most southerly point of the Cape Peninsula. Take one of two short footpaths through dense fynbos to the beach. Walking along the deep soft sands of this beach can require a bit of effort, particularly at high tide. If you have kids, try to time your visit at spring low tide when the rock pools are at their best, providing hours of fascination. Fishing and diving is excellent, particularly for yellowtail and crayfish. Braaing is not allowed. Facilities include ample parking and ablutions.

The self-guided Dassie Interpretive Trail starts at the Augrabies National Park Rest Camp and follows the gorge to Arrow Point, an amazing viewpoint over the lower gorge and Twin Falls. From here, the circular route leads to the impressive geological features of Potholes, Swartrante and Moon Rock before reaching the starting point. The trail is roughly 5 km requires a certain level of fitness as it involves scrambling over slippery rocks. Ensue that you wear appropriate footwear and carry water and sunscreen. Birds and animals frequently seen include African darter, Cape clawless otter, water monitor, giant kingfisher; dassie, klipspringer, springbok and other antelope.
