World class fishing and diving venue, but the town tainted by an ineffective municipality that thinks that it Is acceptable to international and local visitors to Allow trash to litter the town and park, and Parks officials that blatantly allow touts and beggars Into 'guarded' areas , harassing motorists and lowering security and the 'experience', whilst official guards Look on ! Sad deterioration... World Heritage Site, but not onshore

Ubuntu bakwaZulu! With changing times in Zululand due to urbanization, this place is the heart beat of the last outpost last of Zulu culture, at its best! It's spirit is still untouched and un-changed, where a surname still welcomes sons from distant sons.

In the Heart of Maputaland, nestling behind the world’s highest vegetated sand dunes about 5km from the sea, Sodwana Bay Lodge has been carefully designed to match the rustic, eco-oriented nature of the region. Sodwana Bay is one of the world’s top dive sites. The world’s southern-most coral reefs harbour over 1200 species of Coral Fish, Rays, Eels and Turtles while Whale sharks, Dolphins, Sharks and Whales are common visitors. The Raggie Sharks and Turtles are popular guests in the summer Magnum Fishing Charters offer you the chance to test your wits and skill against the noble Marlin and combative game fish. Full and half day excursions are available.

Sodwana Bay meaning "Little one on it's own" is rated as one of the top ten dive sites in the world and many local and international tourists flock to Sodwana Bay for this very reason. Sodwana is situated within a marine reserve and is protected for its great diversity of fish and coral life. It has the tallest vegitated dunes in the world and one of the oldest lobed-finned fish were discovered here called the Coelacanth. Apart for the beautiful diving in Sodwana Bay other activities include deep sea fishing, open ocean snorkeling, whale watching (in season) and turtle excursions (in season). Overall Sodwana Bay offers so much, making it a great destination for families and the adventure seeker.

I would like to advize anybody who are not interested in deep sea diving or deep sea fishing to rather avoid Sodwana Bay at all costs during peak season, holidays or long weekends. Hordes and hordes of unruly campers and day visitors, boat trailer traffic jams literally kilometers long, and a very limited choice of facilities implies that your experience is likely to be somewhat unpleasant.

Well-travelled divers may think that Sodwana Bay doesn’t live up to top dive resorts around the world, but the reefs are teeming with life. The beach launch is known to be challenging but I have never had a bad experience, exhilarating does come to mind though. On one of my dives the corals were spawning and a huge variety of tiny tropical reef fish were having a feast; a magical sight! The beach is amazing and a great place to hang out if you are not disturbed by marlin or sailfish being brought in by the angling boats.

Sodwana Bay is the perfect getaway location. The small town is based on a nature reserve with long golden beaches and the beautiful warm Indian Ocean. Amazing sea life, from tiny clown fish to the massive whale sharks. The whole place has a relaxed island vibe!

I best describe Sodwana as the Kruger Park of the ocean! It's a diving mecca! Sodwana is very remote, and not much development has happened in this area. It has a few restaurants and a couple of bars. But the main attraction is fishing and diving! It is also surrounded by game parks! The beaches are beautiful, and if you like the weather hot, this is your place!

Unclogged beaches and a sparkling sea filled with the most beautiful colours and wildlife one can imagine! A true getaway from the standard beach holiday! Please keep Sodwana as clean, polution free with the clear blue sea as long as possible!
