Simons Town

Description

Simon's Town is an attractive little coastal village on the False Bay side of the Cape Peninsula. Home to the South African Navy, it also functions as a popular stopover en route to Cape Point Nature Reserve, one of the top attractions on the Cape Point route.

Part of the town’s enduring charm is the naval atmosphere, Victoria-style architecture, cobbled streets, pretty beaches and the resident colony of African penguins.

Swim or picnic amongst the webbed-footed birds at Boulders Beach, one of Cape Town's best beaches for children. If you're looking for a bit more action you could snorkel at Seaforth Beach or go on a guided sea kayaking trip from the tiny Simon's Town waterfront to Boulders Beach.

The lively waterfront is the fun part of this village and offers a good selection of quayside restaurants, a curio craft market at the quaint Jubilee Square and an active yacht club. Take to the ocean in the local water taxi or go on an adventurous boat trip to watch whales, seals and white sharks. You could even do something really unique and take an open-ocean pelagic birding trip with Cape Town Pelagics to spot albatrosses and other soaring beauties.

Landlubbers can go on a walkabout and discover Simon's Town's fascinating history by strolling down St George's Street. Interesting places to visit are the Simon's Town Museum, Naval History Museum and the Toy Museum.

My stay in Simons Town was very pleasant but for a bad eating experience at Harbour View Cafe. Food was way too expensive for very average food and the service was disgusting to say the least. I would not recommend this eatery to anybody.

The beauty of Simon's Town is the proximity and distance to Cape Town. Far enough from the hustle of the city, but close enough for a evening out! Here you can relax, enjoy an excellent meal, walk down the main road and shop a little, but we are best known for our peaceful vibe! Whales galore, excellent snorkeling and diving spots, and penguins year round~

A wonderful place to come and relax and meet nice, down to earth people. Escape from the hustle and bustle of Cape Town and stroll down the Historic Mile. Close to good beaches and watch the whales up close in season. Cape Point Nature Reserve is on our doorstep. Excellent and diverse accommodation choices. If you are looking for peace and quiet and some good fresh sea air there is nowhere better than Simon's Town.

Simon's Town is a very special place. A Victorian village with 21st century amenities. There are restaurants catering for all tastes, beautiful home decor and clothes shops, delicatessens, an exquisite patisserie, a town square with market traders and a pretty waterfront offering a variety of water sport activities. And it is a paradise for walkers and hikers. Cape Point is only a 20 minute drive away, along a stunning coastal road, and Cape Town can be reached in under an hour by ... more

DESCRIPTION OF SIMON'S TOWN Simon's Town itself is a quaint and interesting little town. The Simon's Town waterfront is an extremely attractive area with a number of small boutiques selling clothing, artistic items, bric a brac and souvenirs. There is an excellent choice of restaurants within walking and /or driving distance of our holiday home, Felsensicht, including Seaforth Restaurant, The Meeting Place, Bertha’s, The Salty Sea Dog, Café Pescado, Just Sushi, The Quarter Deck and, ... more
