Margate

Description

Margate is a delightful, surprisingly exciting, sub-tropical paradise of a town situated on the South Coast of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa. It is the ideal base from which to explore the wealth of activities available here.

Try your hand at deep sea fishing, enjoy the perfect diving conditions, revel in pleasure boat trips, go scuba diving, golfing, birdwatching, or just relax on the over four kilometer Blue Flag Status beach. Afterwards visit top restaurants, and experience the amazing nightlife. Margate has been a favourite holiday destination in South Africa for over 100 years.

Its idyllic long, sandy beach is made safe by shark nets and the permanent presence of professional lifesavers. Close to the main beach is a lovely children's pool, a freshwater Olympic pool, and there are many pleasure crafts for hire.

The warm Indian Ocean flows across this wonderful coastline providing it with an abundance of beautiful tropical fish and coral reefs. Vast shoals of game fish and large groups of sharks congregating around diving sites such as Protea Banks, makes scuba diving, snorkelling and diving a must in Margate. Other fantastic diving sites include Adda Reef, Deep Salmon, Bo Boyi Reefa and Potato Reef. Besides the spectacular species of game fish and corals, one can also discover and explore the deep mystical caves in these waters. Other exciting water sport activities include canoeing, boardsailing, boating and skiing.

For those who would prefer a little shopping, Margate boasts fine art galleries and craft shops. If you are a bird lover, a visit to the Margate Bird Park is an absolute must. A walk-through aviary will not only captivate but also educate you on the diverse species of exquisite birds. Children can take advantage of the play park while parents can enjoy tasty snacks and refreshing drinks at the tea garden.

Visitors can also spend the day at the Margate Country Club, only 3 kms from the sea. It is located on relatively high ground and has beautiful tall trees and stunning scenery.

Margate is just a cool town, with lots of entertainment for the whole family. The Southern Explorer handbook had valuable information and we applaud the South Coast Tourism for this.
