Wonderful weekend

We had a wonderful weekend at your lodge. Everything was clean and well tendered with beautiful views over the mountains and dams. The fishing was also excellent and all fisherman enjoyed success.

Where can you possibly go to get away from the madness of Jo'burg and not encounter anyone else for two whole days? It was so peaceful and relaxing! I can't remember the last time that had such a great weekend away!

Good mattresses and bed linen. Lovely setting. Enjoyed it as a family weekend where we could enjoy one another's company without interference. Helpful staff. Housekeeping a bonus!


Troutways Private Retreat
Troutways Private Retreat, located just outside Waterval Boven, has been operating for 10 years. It was conceived not only for the sake of fly-fishing, but as an escape to fresh air, the smell of the veld and family togetherness.

There are five well-stocked trout dams of which four are fishable all year round. Troutways' appeal lies not only in the ease of access to a broad range of outdoor activities, but as an escape to a retreat-like environment where families can enjoy being together in a very relaxing atmosphere with no cellphone reception.

There are four fully self-contained lodges available, the original Homestead Lodge and the more recently completed Rainbow, Guinie Fowl and Kingfisher Lodges. Each lodge is rented out as a unit, which guarantees total privacy for all guests. Lodges are fully serviced, where a modest fee is paid directly to the housemaid. Each lodge has a fully equipped kitchen and Homestead Lodge has a bar as well as a pool table. All lodges have outside patios with built-in braais. Bedding and towels are all provided. An initial amount of wood is supplied and more wood can be purchased.

For the avid fly-fishermen, our five trout dams are kept well stocked all year round ensuring enough water frontage for private fishing. A broad range of activities from birdwatching, world-class mountain climbing, hiking to mountain biking can be practiced. Also available is horse riding and rock pools for swimming and canoeing.
