Nice place to stay for a weekend

We stayed in the Grand Cru, just my best friend and I. A cute "flat" that suited our needs just fine. We were in Franschhoek mainly to enjoy the wineries, restaurants and shopping, spending our mornings taking it easy. It is self-catering. I think it's ideal for a girls weekend (only one bed, a queen, comfortable), and felt quite at home there. There is a patio area but you can't really see the mountains from there, but we didn't really need to see as we were driving around during the day. It is a bit removed from the main road, but in a secured area, with a mix of other flats/businesses. It's not like a stand alone cabin or building. But still pretty quiet nonetheless. The only complaint we had is that the wifi was down all weekend (site says that wifi would be available) and the directions to the "African Art Gallery" were a bit misleading (the place where you go to pick up the keys). The NAME of the "african art gallery is actually "African Moods" - located along the main road, near Allora Restaurant. Forget trying to find a street address near the establishment, just look for the name "African Moods".
Pleasant and comfortable

Not quite all that romantic!

Well, apart from the place being clean and the bed comfortable, leaving you with a good nights sleep, nothing else about this place was what we expected.
Things for other visitors to note:
1) this apartment is in a business part complex!
2) it does by no means have a romantic feel - long apartment with the only windows being at either end of the place
3) there is no view, other than a brick wall with 5cm view of the Franschhoek mountains above - not quite what you expect when going away to Franschhoek for the weekend!
4) The toilet doesn't flush properly and the doors don't lock properly either.
It is definitely not worth the money spent and we will definitely not be returning here again! We asked asked around in Franshhoek and came across much better accommodation (with amazing views) for the same price! Huge disappointment but at least we have found alternatives for the future.
Not so Franschhoek

Firstly there was no indication that the keys are to be collected at the African Art Gallery and not at the apartments.
Then the door would not unlock and even when we eventually managed to force the key to turn, we could not lock the door, so we had to push the coffee table against the door to give us some security.
There was not enough hot water to have a bath and a shower, my partner had a bath I had a cold shower. No coffee or tea for the morning.
The place is well equipped and very pretty but I won't be back. We had nothing but trouble. We did not even stay the second night.

It was a great luxurious place. It's nice with peace and quiet and a great homely feeling - it's like home-away-from-home. You feel so comfortable.
