We had a lovely peaceful weekend! We could look out from our kitchen window or sit quietly on the patio and watch the blouhartebees, waterbuck and Nyala stroll past. In the early evening we could spot the nagappies running along the branches and jumping to the trees. The heated pool was divine, perfect temperature and we landed up having a picnic by the pool. We ate strawberries and snacked when we got to the lookout points on our morning and afternoon hikes and had the most fantastic view. We didn’t have to leave the lodge and had total peace and quiet. Had everything we needed. The staff were so friendly too!

Our Host Vanessa was very pleasant, Esther cleaned the unit for us and she was so sweet. The house, linen, appliances were all clean and in working order however I would get the couches cleaned to freshen them up. The garden grounds were very dry but as it had not rained, it was expected. We explored the moutain trail which was manageable with 2 children but very rocky with loose stones and sandy so wear proper hiking shoes/boots. A few Wilderbeast and bucks could be seen, the Wilderbeast come fairly close to the houses but they are quite harmless. The highlight was the heated pool were we spent most of our time in.
The neighbouring property had a party 2 nights in a row that was rather unpleasant but once we had raised this with Vanessa, the party quietened down by the 3rd night.
Overall experience was good, would recommend if you want time away from the city to reconnect with nature.

We loved the utter privacy of our log cabin, and the fact that tbe owners weren't on top of us the whole time. It was utter bliss to explore and get away from the city, certainly our families enjoyed it tremendously...
If any criticism it was only we would only have liked to be abit informed of where and when we could expect to see the eland and Buffalo which we did get to see on our walk so all in all we loved it.

Everytime we stay at Thaba Thipa we come back refreshed. The chalets are very rustic (in a good way) and somewhat private.

I loved the warm from from Veronica on our arrival. I wish they could fix the kitchen tap in the Elands chalet, the tap just opens and close itself and it has this noisy sound. They need to communicate the breakage fee of R200 prior to arrival so that it doesn't come as a surprise. They should have a list of items in each room for guests to know what in the chalet in case there are breakages. Some of the beds were uncomfortable and makes a squeaky sound when you turn.

The place was lovely
The owner Veronica was very friendly,
They can just improve on offering tea or coffee in their rooms, secondly they where a few spider webs showing that, they don't focus on that part of cleaning, thirdly the shower took forever to drain the water, so by the time u finished bathing you are standing in water covering your feet.
But overall a 4 out of 5
The place is very nice and quiet

Will never ever go back. According to rules no load music and walking around speakers. Owners do not move around to work according to rules. Saw owners with book in and never again until we we booked out. From 11 o clock Saterday morning had to listen to very unpleasant music from the neighbours. All day and the evening. Sunday morning all over again. Key deposit was a problem after a number of emails requesting my money. Refunded only on the 7th of march. Booking was 24 Jan. So not as contract said within 30 days. Never again will we go there again.

To be improved: Communication between the client and Safari.com. I struggled to get Safari.com to change the date after sending 3 emails and they didn't bother to respond
We cannot have a one-way communication. Safari needs to responds, and responds promptly. I was disappointed
but Veronica came to my rescue and attended to my request. Thanks Vero. I will definitely return and perhaps book directly as the treatment I got from Safari was upsetting

Tuesday, 15 January 2019
The place is small and doesn't have air conditioners. The chalets I was booked in doesn't have to be 2 bedroom, both bedrooms beds are old and absolutely uncomfortable. The lounge is small with a small telly mounted on a very high position making it impossible to watch it for sometime. Surroundings are totally different from what is pasted on the internet. The place needs a total make up and extension of apartments. I really wont advise anybody to go there for their holidays. Establishments response: In the reservation letter we sent to Mr Mogorosi, it was mentioned that the Impala chalet doesn't have an airconditioner. ''Air conditioners in the Eland and Klipspringer chalets , Fans in Impala and Duiker" There is different tariffs for different accommodation units. The Eland log house is a big house but is also more expensive . You have chosen a cheaper chalet which is a smaller chalet with no air conditioner. The TV is not small, it is a 49" . Unfortunately it was needed to be mounted above the door as it was knocked off twice from the TV stand. Regards

Sunday, 30 December 2018
We left after one night (which we wouldn't even have stayed, if the baby hadn't fallen asleep). The wasn't a patch of grass, the bedding hadn't been changed since the previous people had stayed in the unit, the unit was terribly dirty, with ants everywhere. Also, not one of the fans were working in the bedrooms. Establishments Response: I would like to respond on a very negative review by Samantha Venter: We at Thaba Thipa strives to deliver excellent customer service and see each point raised in a serious light. We are changing our bedding and towels after every Guest's stay. We are sure that if you have raised it and the fans which were not working with us, we would have been able to resolve it to your satisfaction. Please remember that we are currently in winter which is our dry season. With South Africa facing serious drought concerns we made the decision not to water excessively, unfortunately resulting in brown grass. Regards

This place is more like a plot very disappointing. Couch and chair has big dents in them covered with throws to hide them.. Bed makes a noise. Microwave's paint is all off inside. Stove is a thing on top of counter. Toaster looks 100 years old. TV is very old and one has to stand up to change channels as the decoder is in top of the TV. Towels have frayed edges. Both pools are cold grass is brown no shade as shown in the photo of the place. Quite frankly pools at home are nicer than there. The pictures are taken very cleverly not what this place is at all. Once you walked up a small mountain that's it , nothing to see. We saw Kudu like ants at the very top after a walk. Saw 4 Bluewilderbeest and 4 Impala at the small drinking pool not far from the house nothing to get excited about. Ridiculous price and no 10 perc deduction for pensioners. Not worth it all all very disappointing. We left after one night but was given our deposit back minus one nights stay which we feel is not fair as ThabaThipa is not what is advertised. Sorry we have to say this but it is true. Establishments response: Thank you for your feedback. We at Thaba Thipa strives to deliver excellent customer service and see each point raised in a serious light. We are sure that if any of the points were raised with us during your stay, we would have been able to resolve them to your satisfaction. Please remember that we are currently in winter which is our dry season. With South Africa facing serious drought concerns we made the decision not to water excessively, unfortunately resulting in brown grass. The game on the farm are not tame and we cannot guarantee what will be seen by guests during their stay. Even though we have a strict refund policy, all monies except the night stayed was refunded. We believe that we will be able to exceed your expectations if you would like to visit us again.

We had a lovely stay. Enjoyed all the wildlife as well as the heated pool. Great hospitality from the owner.
Some suggestions:
Fix the squeaky beds in Impala, look at buying new lounge couches as those are quite uncomfortable. Can't cook a meal on the mini stove/oven - so slow.

Lots to be improved, There was no umbrella's as in the pic.
the drive way into the resort, is a singly road extremely rocky needs to be tared. they really need to improve by investing in some water slides. No gazebo area at the pool.
Should have a shop on the property / selling ice creams, cool drinks and crisp.

We loved that it was a very modest and basic set up - but there was everything we needed. The units were very clean and serviced daily. Our hosts Veronica and George were on site if we needed any assistance. I would just mention that the mozzies are very active so make sure you take mozzie protection. Mozzie nets would be a great addition.

Mountain of the Knives still rocks... literally!
Back again for the 3rd time in 18 months, for quiet, solitude and relaxation. We appreciate the easy access, simplicity and easy access to explore the farm. Good to be able to walk a very rocky road a few times a day, surprising the impala, enjoying the bushveld scenery and air, and coming face to face with the new wildebeest calves... beautiful!!!
Then always good to have the option of an exhilarating cold swim or a more extended wallow in their heated pool... clean and well maintained.
Unit had a few minor niggles, but nothing to detract from a wonderful few days.
Interestingly, found some intriguing pebbles embedded in sedimentary rock at the highest part on the koppie on the farm. Evidence of a global flood as per the Genesis account in the Bible...???
Thaba Thipa remains our daughters favourite, and will be visited and explored again... hopefully after some summer rains when the greenery is back!
The kids loved the impalas, bush buck and blou wildebeest that walked freely at our cabin

My friends and i stayed in the impala chalet which has a fantastic view of the bush and a viby braai area.
The heated pool was a total winner as was the enjoyable climb up the mountain. Bucks roam around freely.
Thaba thipa is closely situated to shops etc in Bela Bela, and Forever resorts for their health hydro. So there is something for everyone. For us, the beautiful bushveld and serene simplicity of this place made it a place to revisit.
Highly recommended for overworked and stressed out individuals.

We didn't like the experience when we tried to check-out. It was about 10:00 on a public holiday, 1 May 2017 and there was no one at the office to hand over the keys to. We called one of the staff on his mobile phone and he told us to drop it off at the main gate as we exited from the property. We were concerned about leaving the keys there.

We will never reccommend Thaba Thipa to anyone and will never go there again.
The chalet that we stayed in needs some upgrading... the bathroom door had hole in and you could see it was not a recent or new hole, the toilet was leaking, the kitchen cupbourd around the basin and taps had old water damage where the cupboard top started lifting and had some mould (very gross) and the thatched roof was leaking at 2 places in the livingroom. AND the waterpipe from the chalet next to us burst on the Sunday morning around 10:00 due to the pipe that was old and rusted and the water kept running straight through till the next morning. The people who stayed in that chalet tried to call the owner (and sent a message to her) and we tried to call a few times but got no response. We ourselves also tried to close off the water of that chalet as well as the water at the water tanks but could not find the tap or switch to stop the water so the water ran non stop. The owners or any staff member could not be found to assist.
We just feel that Thaba Thipa needs some serious upgrading!

Tranquil and beautiful surroundings. We booked 3 of the chalet with my family and they are nice and spacious. The linen need to be changed, they looked very old. Hygiene need to be key, spider web's on most corner's of the room. The measure concern is the electricity issues. We stayed from 23:00 - 05:00 without electric and we had little ones there that needed bottles which became a real inconvenience. The elec went on and off from 8:00 the next morning until 20:00 at night. Such a big inconvenience it was with preparing meals ETC. Please look into getting a generator for such. However the 3 nights there we made the most of it and enjoyed the stay. The heated pool was a hit. Beautiful views on the mountain climbing. Thaba Thipa it is- the name says it all.

It is a very nice quiet place for whenever you need peace of mind. However the place is not so clean there are spider webs every where and the bed is so old. On our first night we could not sleep due to heavy thunder storm for about 4 hours. Our wooden chalet (Eland) was making such scary noise and my kids were crying. Overall when you are tired of the busy city life you can visit then you'll restore your inner peace Regards Tracey

I really expected more. A lot of things were broken. A glass a knife the bed lamp and microwave's turning table and towel rail. The linen is full of holes and the bath towels were very small for a normalsize person. There is a big hole in one of the double beds and couch were also damaged. There were not enough winter throws pots and toilet paper. We even found the previous people's hair (braids) on the chair. The cleaner were also very nasty.

We had a pleasant stay over the Easter weekend. However the place is in need of some maintenance, it was quite rugged. There isn't a proper oven and certain kitchen essentials are missing or broken. The pictures of the place are not a true reflection of what it is like. There is one Impala and a few birds, which was very disappointing as we were looking forward to a proper bush experience. There are two pools but the fiberglass is peeling off the hot pool and their are no umbrellas or chairs to sit on nearby. We didn't see the owners at all and the lady who cleaned was not very friendly.

It was nice and peaceful but the house needs a little
TLC. The curtains were all dirty, some of the plugs in the kitchen are loose- dangerous, the cold water tap in the bathroom is running constantly, plenty of cobwebs and dust behind the beds and a new layer of some paint inside the house would not do any harm.

Did not enjoy our stay at Thaba Thipa, The rooms are fine but someone tried to break into our cottage whilst we were sleeping which made us not to be relaxed throughout our stay there and the load shedding for more than 12 hours did not also help, therefore we left before the end of our holiday.

The service was not as we expected. The braai area was only cleaned after the second day, so if we had wanted to braai on day 2, we would have had to clean the ash ourselves. Worst holiday ever, the pool was not heated as it was advertised. No help and unfriendly staff and owners. Not like we even got to see who they are. Rats in the chalets. Dust that was there for years, the place was not cleaned properly. Holiday nightmare. Will not go back there.
Establishment Response:
We have a heated pool, not a hot pool. In summertime it reaches a temperature of 34 to 36 degrees Celsius. During the winter months, June and July, the temperature is down to a maximum of 28 degrees Celsius due to the fact that the water cools off during the chilly nights and only reheats during the day. We are going to get a "bubble blanket" to cover the pool during the evenings to minimize heat loss.
Management and personnel are at all times friendly and assist where possible. In this case, assistance has been requested out of our scope of service, like the washing of clothes.
Our chalets are serviced daily. It will however be appreciated if guests can report to management when their chalet hasn't been clean properly in order to attend to their complaint immediately.
We can assure any of our prospective guests that there are no rats at any of our chalets. The accommodation is on a farm and we have several species of wildlife. A group of bush babies have for example made a nest at the back of that chalet under the carport roof. We also have squirrels. We are of the opinion that the Matthews family have mistaken either the bush babies or squirrels for rats.
Refreshing experience

Our stay at Thaba Thipa left us relaxed and well rested. The delightful surroundings and interaction with the farm and wild animals was a tonic. Wish our stay could have been longer and would love another visit in the future.

Thank you! We needed a restful weekend and that's exactly what we got. The surroundings were peaceful. The Eland were stunning - roaming around the property. A short drive from Bela Bela with many interesting craft shops on the way.
Very nice

As a newly established place, they are doing well. Hopefully after another year from now, they would be one of the best places to visit.

Thaba Thipa
Thaba Thipa, which means "Mountain of the Knife", is situated on a 22-hectare farm in the heart of the bushveld, just 10 minutes north from Bela Bela on the road to Modimolle. The name Thaba or "mountain" originates from the mountain the farm is situated on. Hiking will result in beautiful scenery and offers an exquisite view of the surroundings.
Accommodation consists of a log house with beautiful views and three chalets set in a tranquil surrounding. All the units have private bathrooms, TVs with full DStv access, fully equipped kitchens and private barbecue areas. For guests' pleasure, there is also a heated swimming pool and a jungle gym for the kids.
The emphasis at Thaba Thipa is on tranquility and relaxation; cool off in our refreshing pool after conquering the bush trails or watch the sunset while you prepare a fire for the evening barbecue.
Over 100 bird species have been recorded on the farm, presenting a wonderful opportunity for bird watching.
