This has been by far the worst BnB I've stayed at. EVER! The pictures are nothing like the BnB. The rooms are old and moldy. They actually took 2 single beds and made them into one. Like seriously, who does that. The staff were shouting and laughing about with each other at 5am with absolutely no consideration for their guests at all. Very disappointed!

We were there for the Comrades Marathon and I was pleased to see that breakfast would be served at 2am and that they had oats on the menu. When we arrived for breakfast there was no oats. They explained to me that they can make some but they have to get it from their sister establishment. As I was thoroughly prepared for any mishaps, I did pack oats and promptly gave it to the chef. The Chef made the best oats that I have ever tasted, so creamy and right consistency. Boy, did I enjoy that and am also happy to say that I completed the most Ultimate Human Race due to that great start!
False advertising - many lies on description

Ilawu states that they have a pool, a security guard, free wi fi (which was broken, perhaps it does exist) and that all rooms are en-suite. None of the above are true.
The receptionist was good and the place was neat but way over priced for what you receive.

I booked into llawu, 'cause ..it looks great on the internet pic's and the shuttle service. But, pics are not what it seems, eg, paint peeling from the walls and ane, not so neat, stained bed linen, then I get it, the next night as well. I when for a court case, it have been postponed, so, I have to go back, 1 night early, not even a sent paid back to help as refund, lost R600+ and have to b happy wih that! When you leave your room, you have to hand in your key, how safe are that. With my return, one of my beds were removed, so, how may people were in my room, how long have I been standing open....... Ja, then, the food, heated up in a micro.....not
good, then as advertised,a shuttle, but no shuttle, after I had confirmed with my booking, I had to phone and paid my own taxi! Never again....SORRY!

Firstly the B N B was not what we expected (building in and out) the service was good as the receptionist was friendly, we asked to be transferred to Illawu INN, when we arrived the room that we were put in had a terrible smell and the bathroom was flooded and we were moved to another room which also was smelly and we couldn't take it and phoned the receptionist as we wanted to be transferred to hotel and we were willing to pay extra but she told us it was fully booked only to find out that was a lie as we phoned ourselves to enquiry when we phoned back the receptionist said she was told we moved a lot of times that is why she has to make up a story to say it was full. That was extremely disappointing and it carried on and on up until we decided we will let it go we slept there. Both my friend and I work for companies that are client based and our main motto is to make the clients happy and satisfied at all times at iLLAWU that was not exercised, we came to celebrate our birthdays as we do every year in November travelling around and this is the 1st time in our history we have ever experienced something of this nature so negative. I hope our experience will teach you a lesson to treat clients we tenderness and care. Unfortunately we will never use Illawu for our entertainment and wish you all the best.

We take great care in ensuring that our guest receives the best service and exceptional hospitality during their stay with us at any of Ilawu Hotels and Lodges properties. Though we were not successful in this particular situation to meet the expectations of our valued guest. We assure you that we have taken actions to prevent this inconvenience from reoccurring in the future and that this matter has received our ultimate attention. We have requested from our human resource manager to retrain the staff on( Ilawu Hotels and Lodges business ethics and guest relations) which forms part of our policy. We will further like to offer Miss Ndlovu and her companion a complimentary stay for maximum of 2 nights at our boutique Hotel including breakfast and this complimentary is valid till 31 December 2013, subject to availability and we would request her to book direct with our general manager Mr Mo Ngubane or through SAFARI NOW if possible prior to her anticipated date of arrival. We would also request her to bring her positive ID document for security purposes and to make sure that the complimentary is claimed by the legitimate person.
We as Ilawu Hotels and Lodges will like to thank "SAFARI NOW " for providing us with such a feedback and we also thanking our valuable guest for choosing to stay with us, and also taking her time to review our property. We also appreciate that despite of her experience with us, she has complimented our service and our Ilawu Hotels and Lodges signature behaviour, which is friendly.

Not a happy stay

We did not enjoy our stay at Ilawu bed and breakfast. Firstly we got there and they had no booking for us. We were told that we've been checked into the hotel but they had no rooms available so eventually we were checked into the B&B. The room was fine except for leaking shower and faulty blinds we had to manually open and close the blinds. And I had to get ready for a function but no mirror by dressing table. We didn't have coffee or tea in room as there were only one cup thinking we'll get some at breakfast no cups on table had fruit juice. Breakfast was awful didn't ask us how we liked our eggs etc but who serves viennas with egg and bacon maybe if it was another type of sausage like pork or cheese griller and we left more than half our breakfast couldn't stomach it. We couldn't wait to leave! Just didn't get our money worth. Never going back there.

We had a beautiful time staying at Ilawu. The staff is very humble and professional. Always willing to meet client's needs. The service from the day we checked in was exceptional until we left. The rooms are so comfortable that one felt at home being away from home. Keep up the exceptional work that you do.

At first we were a bit sceptical to stay at Ilawu, because we did not have any knowledge about this establishment, but what a surprise we got! The rooms, bathroom, eating area, etc. were very neat and tidy. The garden invited us to sit outside and enjoy the sun. The staff also was very kind and professional. When we left they even went the extra mile and prepared us a breakfast for the road. I will really go back there with my next visit.

The service was excellent. I received what I requested speedily, even when it meant that they had collect it from their hotel a couple of kilometres away. The dinner at the hotel was tasty.

Thank you for arranging our stay at llawu Bed and Breakfast. What a wonderful, cosy place to stay. The staff made us feel so welcome and went out of their way to make us comfortable. This was a magnificent place to stay and the whole experience was one of professional hospitality.
