Disappointing 40th anniversary weekend getaway

23 October 2012 110% on Marious service and will go out of his way to assist and then some more. Major disappointment in the actual versus what you see on the web. Booked double room, got twin room, after Mariunus accomodated our late arrival. Toilet rust stain, basin broken plug and rust stains, shower (no bath) curtain dirty. Lamp shades old, dirty and broken. Bed linen not anything like the picture on the web. Duvet faded and blue stripe not matching the leopard skin curtains. "Water Hole" is a small concrete pond? The main reception dining room etc. very nice and as you see it on the web is what you find. Very disappointing 40th anniversary celebration weekend after the wonderfull effort put in by Marious to please us.

03 May 2011 Sungulwane is a fabulously located lodge in the Hluhluwe/Imfolozi area. Hosts Marius, Rina and their staff are friendly and attentive. There is not much to do at the lodge but the food and catering is excellent. Perfectly secluded for a quiet relaxing break.

24 November 2010 We enjoyed our stay in all aspects. We arrived during a tropical thunderstorm, but we arrived to a lovely place with great hospitality, we will definitely get back. Due to the storm it was impossible to have a game drive the following day, but since Hluhluwe is close, we had a great day there.

18 August 2008 We went with the purpose of bird-watching and this was well fulfilled - game is sparse, but of no concern in our case. The environment is eminently suited to bird viewing even in this very dry time and well cared for - very little evidence of alien invasion
Our stay was superb.

11 March 2008 The game viewing was fantastic, thanks to Dean. The setting was tranquil and the scenery out of this world.
All the staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome.
Thanks to all of you for making our stay so enjoyable.

13 January 2008 We found it very relaxing and had enough to do even if the weather was not always optimal to sunbathe at the pool! The lodge is small which I prefer with a staff that has a subtle attentiveness which is well appreciated by travellers just looking to relax, enjoy the bush and have a little down to earth luxury.
The service was great

19 September 2007 Since it was our first time in South Africa, we were pretty inexperienced to what it takes to make the best of our holiday. We were pretty lucky to check into Sungulwane Hills Game Lodge, as it turned out to be one of the highlights of our whole SA experience! Being a family consisting of a nice bunch of 2 adults and 3 almost adults, we spend three unforgetable nights at Sungulwane. Not only were we spoilt by the warm and welcoming hospitality of our hosts/hostess, but also the delicious kitchen. Every morning there was a yummy breakfast ready for us any time fitting to our personal wishes, every night, whenever we felt hungry, there was a 4 course menu-candle light dinner prepared to spoil our stomach! The comfortable beds were always ready made whenever we entered the beautiful cottages and our hostess would always ensure we were content. There was no time for boredom as Sungulwane offered an adventures program ranging from bushveld-bike-rides to exciting game drives at night. To be honest we were more than just sad to leave this beautiful lodge and wished we could have stayed longer! It is definitely a place one could easily spend his whole holiday, being sure not to miss one bit of the stunning South African atmosphere. We were so pleased with the smiling staff that spread happiness all over the place and were also impressed by the individual effort that was only being made for us! Our pleasant hostess was even very much concerned to help us with our ongoing journey and gave us further helpful advice. No wonder it was hard for us to leave this friendly and warm people and this stunning area! Since we have never experienced such a holiday before, and time - unfortunately- moves on and took us back to our home country, we can at least dream of it now - Sungulwane participated to our South African Dream! Thank you very much Christel! We will never forget you and hope to be back some day!

01 June 2007 We had a very good time at Sungulwane. The management and team all pull extremely well together to make guests feel welcome and well looked after. The chef is excellent at preparing unusual and visibly pleasing gastronomic delights and plenty of it! Our dinner on the banks of a watering hole at dusk was both unique and exhilarating and will be remembered as a highlight. The game drives were informative and game easily visible from the Land Cruiser. The accommodation was a little "rustic" but satisfactory for this type of getaway and certainly comfortable right down to the turning down of the beds and chocolate on the pillow in the evenings! The establishment is well run by Steven and Christel and their team!

21 May 2007 Our Honeymoon was an unbelievable experience, one that we will surely treasure for a lifetime! Christel, Steven and Denise really went out of their way to make us feel at home, and there was not one thing that we would have changed! Our days were filled with fun and adventure from Horse riding in the bush with Steven to Tiger fishing nearby, Christel organized everything for us, they even made us a surprise dinner in the bush right next to a waterhole, it was truly amazing!
Thank you for making our honeymoon memorable!

30 January 2007 Sungulwane Hills Game Lodge was more that we ever could have imagined. The natural beauty was only enhanced by their extremely genuine hospitality, wonderful meals and helpful direction. Sungulwane offers simple elegance tucked away just miles from the natural reserves in the area. Absolutely fantastic!

23 November 2006 From the minute I talked to Christel on the email I knew this was the place I was meant to go to - and it did not disappointment me. The special attention that they give each guest really makes the stay special. Although they have a lot of animals, the Giraffe and zebra are my favorites and I never went a day without seeing both. I was even able to horse back ride very close to both. The food was outstanding. I would definitely recommend this place!!

16 November 2006 We spent 5 days as Sungulwane and enjoyed every minute of it. Chris couldn't have been more helpful, and helped us to plan and book all of our activities, for which we used the lodge as a base. The food was excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful at all times.

05 October 2006 Sungulwane Hills Game Lodge is the ultimate hospitality experience. It is rare to come across an establishment that is run by such dedicated and friendly people.
The rooms were lovely, set up in a wonderful African feel with all the modern comforts. Very clean and well presented.
Upon arrival, the manager Chris was there to welcome us with home-made lemonade and ice cold face cloths. After a long journey, what a welcome! This was soon followed by freshly baked muffins for afternoon tea.
We stayed on a DBB package and must say that it is the best food I have ever tasted. Four course dinners , two course breakfast and afternoon tea! You will never go hungry.
I wish to thank Chris and Steve and all at Sungulwane Hills Game Lodge for a very memorable stay and we will definitley see you again in the future.
An excellent time

02 May 2006 We experienced a wonderul 5 days at Sungulwane. Steve and Christel made us feel unbelievably welcome and at home in the very cosy and comfortable lodge. The lodge site is so in-the-bush and peaceful. As for the food, Christel's meals were out of the top draw, certainly way above our expectations and servings were perfect size. We did a horse back ride through the game reserve which is well stock in terms of game, and Steve provided many interesting and knowledgable points. Many other activities could be arranged on site and we made full use of Christel's organistional capabilities, again nothing was too much to ask and all were very well organised and our packed breakfasts of snacks were fantastic. Overall a very very value-for-money and worthwhile experience. We will definitely be back!

03 September 2005 A perfect spot to unwind after a hectic ten day trip around northern KZN. Bird watching from the front lawn was wonderful with the pool at hand when the need to cool off called. Personal attention in a beautiful building made meal times and evening drinks a true pleasure. Our five year old daughter was well looked after and seeing 'Big Bully Brother' emerge from the water to graze each evening over sundowners made her trip. Saw our first African Wild Cat.
