Disappointment
Riaan Britz, South Africa - Tuesday, 20 October 2015
I have stayed at Chibububo about four years ago with friend and had an absolute blast. The music started playing by the pool at about 10am and the bar opened. All the holiday makers would emerge from their cabins and we would all enjoy a day by the pool with new and interesting people. I insisted a group of us, 9 friends, come to this place, based on great memories from the previous time. I was unfortunately disappointed when upon arrival we were notified that the kitchen is closed, the bar is closed and there was no music. On the bright side, the staff was extremely friendly and the Manager Stuart was always available to assist where he can. His wife Linda, made us tasty prawns after hours in our villa and only requested a tip for her efforts. It was a Lovely meal!! We bought the prawns from the locals for 300MT/kg Be sure to use a scale from the resort, as their scales are not right. ALWAYS WEIGH! We received just below 4kg when we asked for 5kg prawns. The units are not that nice, we had numerous problems. Our mosquito nets had holes in them. I weigh 100kg and slept on a mattress so flimsy that I could feel the planks of the base after lying for only a little while. Our toilet seat was on the verge of breaking and on day three we no longer had a toilet seat or lid. Stuart was unable to replace it, as he had not received funds from the owners. Our room's cupboards could not stay closed and we had to tie it closed with a belt. The other two rooms' cupboards were locked with no keys, which left us unable to use it. The units have gas stoves and upon arrival the staff brings a gas cylinder. We had to share a cylinder with neighbours, as they did not have enough cylinders for the units. We had to close our door to the patio by putting a couch in front of it. Our shower leaked onto the bathroom floor and the floor of the shower was busy breaking apart. We would not go to Vilankulo very soon, as the accommodation was a major let down and the costs are expensive. The locals sell charters to the islands which include snorkelling as well as lunch on the island. We paid 3000MT per person to experience Bazzaruto island, On which we had a lovely lunch. Go snorkelling on the 2Mile Reef, which had me in awe!! We also went to Benguera Island. The experience was amazing and I would do it again, but we heard a day later we can go on the exact same tour for 2000MT. Be sure to ask around and specify what the tour includes. In a nutshell: We enjoyed experiencing Vilankulo, but would not stay at Chibububo again. For the distance one has to drive from South Africa, I would much rather go to Inhambane, which has numerous diving and snorkelling sites or to Xai Xai and Belline.
