Sandown Lodge

Well-supplied with all the necessaries, comfortable and quiet.
Awesome Two Oceans Marathon accommodation
Grant Schuleman, South Africa - 02 April 2013
Just what we needed. Room for 4 of us, close to the start and finish of the Two Oceans Marathon, clean, neat and comfortable. More than adequate for what we required. The breakfasts were also great. Our hosts, Vanessa and Peter, were fantastic and able to chat about the race, etc. Really nice and I hope to be back next year.
Wonderful hospitality
Terry Dachs, Australia - 17 October 2012
Sandown Lodge captured for us the essence of Cape Town; cultured, stylish and serene. As a Bed and Breakfast facility, it provided us with very good value for money. The bedroom combined comfort with tasteful, conservative décor and the added touch of South African homemade rusks to be enjoyed with morning coffee or tea added a welcoming, homely touch. The ambience of the spacious dining room in the old Georgian House complimented the gourmet breakfasts which were varied and delicious. We found every aspect of the Lodge to be ‘classy’ without being ostentatious. The hosts were friendly, helpful and charming and we appreciated the transportation to and from the airport. Sandown Lodge was exactly what we needed as ex-South Africans, on a visit home, to remind of us South African hospitality.

Very convenient
Andrea Prinsloo, South Africa - 28 September 2012
The rooms were clean and comfortable. The host was very accommodating and did her best to meet our needs. The local shuttle service to and from the university was very efficient and convenient. We enjoyed our stay very much.
Up to standard
Bernice Botha, South Africa - 07 May 2012
The facilities of the room were up to standard. Parking wasn't the best and our stay was average.

Establishment's Response

It is unfortunate that Ms Botha was not happy with her stay at Sandown Lodge. She did however make a booking for a single guest and did not inform me that there were going to be two guests. Naturally, I was rather surprised when two guests arrived. Unfortunately all my other rooms were fully booked and so they had to share a room which obviously was not ideal but they said they were happy to do so, since the error was on their part.

There is off street parking for all the guests at Sandown Lodge and when it is very full, a car may be parked in. This was the case with Ms Botha and since I knew that they wanted a leisurely morning, having requested breakfast for 10h00, as a courtesy, I offered to move their car in the morning so that they would not be disturbed.
Everything you expect and need

Great
Helen Bowtell, Australia - 14 March 2011
Absolutely wonderful. A very convenient location, quiet and comfortable. Lovely garden to unwind in each afternoon. And scrumptious breakfasts, more food than we could eat. Friendly kind hosts. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the place to others.

Vanessa was very friendly and helpful. The accommodation is private and spacious and the continental breakfast provided was tasty. I highly recommend Sandown Lodge.

Sandown Lodge
Sandown Lodge is a charming 19th century Georgian house, centrally situated in picturesque surroundings opposite Rondebosch Park. Its central location makes it an ideal base for business persons, academics and holiday makers.

Newlands Cricket Ground and Newlands Rugby Stadium are within walking distance, as is the University of Cape Town. The shuttle bus to and from UCT has a pick up point outside the Lodge. Shops, restaurants, a pharmacy and public transport facilities are all within easy walking distance. For the holiday maker, popular tourist attractions including Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Cavendish Square, and the Baxter Theatre are a mere 10 minutes drive away. Cape Town International Airport, the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, Table Mountain and Robben Island are easily accessible and about a 15 minutes drive away. The beaches and a number of top wine estates are a 20 to 30 minutes drive away. For business persons and academics, Groote Schuur Hospital, the centre of town and the International Convention Centre are 10 to 15 minutes drive away.

Accommodation is offered in three light, spacious and well appointed double suites, each with own en-suite bathroom. Two of the suites are ideal for longer stays, as they consist of a double bedroom, en-suite bathroom, lounge area and a kitchenette. The kitchenettes contain a microwave oven, a two plate stove, fridge, kettle, toaster and all cutlery and crockery to ensure convenience.

All the suites have their own private, separate entrance with secure off street parking. The suites have access to a pretty and secluded garden area which is dominated by a beautiful 180 year old oak tree. The shade from the tree and the entertainment from the numerous squirrels scurrying for acorns, make it a peaceful setting for early morning breakfast or afternoon tea. All three suites are equipped with satellite TV and have access to Wireless Internet. Two additional guests can be accommodated within the larger self-catering suites if required.
