This is our 3rd stay at Ashtree, very clean well kept accommodation. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful. i would definitely recommend Ashtree as a stop over between Joburg and the Cape.

Comfortable and adequate for an overnight stop.

It was fine for a one night stop-over.

It isn't anything fancy but it is everything you need if you are just sleeping over. Its all clean and tidy with a nice bath room. The super family room is really big, allot of space. The fridge isn't very efficient. (Note there is no Wi-Fi or television). The church tour was good with allot of information about the town and its history. The museum is closed.

Neat clean and spacious. We have been to many guest houses and this is one of the best. Will stay there again.

We stayed in the dormitory. It was clean and the beds were comfortable. Very very basic accomodation. A comfortable place to sleep overnight.

I arrived quite late at night and the host, Baby, was very welcoming and friendly. The town was quiet and I got a great night's sleep.

Set in a the quaint little town of Hanover, Northern Cape, which is almost exactly halfway between Johannesburg and Cape Town, the guesthouse amenities and rooms were excellent. Breakfast and dinner (if required) have to be arranged in advance. Excellent value for money overall.

We enjoyed our stay, they were very accommodating and friendly, the rooms are very tastefully decorated, and have everything you need for a overnight stop. Would definately recommend them.

This guest house is easy to find and 50m from a nice pub and restaurant which makes it ideal for a stop over.

Comfortable and  quiet. Wall panel heater and electric blanket.

We arrived quite late in the evening and the lady was very accommodating. The room was incredibly clean and even had an electric blanket on the bed. Thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay over.

We will come stay here again sometime in the future because we had a lovely time and were pleased with the accommodation.

After a very long drive up the N1 from Cape Town we were greeted at the Ashtree Guesthouse and made to feel very welcome. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The accommodation was very good, clean and comfortable and I can recommend the Ashtree guesthouse as a good place to stop on the N1.

We had a great stay at Ashtree Guesthouse. We were travelling from Cape Town to Joburg and had a nights stopover in Hanover. It’s a highly recommended stop over for the trip up from Cape Town. We were warmly welcomed and treated to outstanding hospitality. The rooms were comfortable with new, clean linen and towels. A strong, hot shower was much appreciated. The Guesthouse is conveniently located in the town within a quiet neighbourhood. If in Hanover, Ashtree Guesthouse is a must! (If you get there before 18:00, you can get a history lesson at the old church)

After a long, hot drive we arrived at Ashtree Guesthouse! It was like being welcomed home after a long trip. We sat outside that evening with Baby and Susan chatting like family. We would definitely stop over there again. The stores were all closed for Christmas, they kindly offered to cook a meal for us even though it was not part of the package. Wonderful, warm hospitality! We were a bit late, and were phoned to find out if we were still on our way or if we had trouble along the way. We received a very friendly welcome and had a nice clean room. I totally forgot to ask if the place was pet friendly, and on arrival I asked if it is fine if I have a small house trained dog, although they dont really take animals, the allowed me to have my dog with me, so the dog did not need to sleep in the car. Thank you so much for your friendly service. I will definitely stop over if I ever go on the same route again.

We enjoyed a peaceful overnight stay at AshTree Guest House. The owners were very friendly and helpful.

Im writing this on behalf of my sister and her husband (Laurita and Cyril Martin) as I did the booking for them. I can truly say, from the booking to the arrival and overnight stay, everything worked out smoothly.
They left Saturday 11 January 2014 at 15h00 and arrived just before 23h30. They called Baby van Heerden to inform her that they were running late due to stop - and - go delays on the road from Cape Town, to which Baby replied that she would wait up for them.
My sister smsd to say that they had arrived safely and although I booked a room with 2 single beds, they were given a luxury queen bed. \It’s fantastic

Ashtree Guesthouse was such an amazing find. We thoroughly enjoyed staying at this beautiful and very comfortable little guesthouse. The facilities were excellent and it felt like a home away from home. We fell in love with Hanover and we will certainly return. We really experienced true Karoo hospitality - a big thanks to Mrs van Heerden.

We stopped over in Hanover on 17th December 2013 on our way to CT. Mrs Baby v Heerden gave us a very warm welcome and made us feel at home. The room was comfy and clean and inviting. Thank you for your friendly service and kind hospitality. I will definitely make use of your services again on my future journeys.

The establishment was easy going and very friendly.

Lovely little guesthouse, Owner's are wonderful, friendly people. We arrived late and Mrs Van Heerden was friendly and very welcoming. Great place for a stop on your way to CT/PTA. Will always remember this place and friendly owners of the guesthouse.

We had a wonderful stay at this guesthouse. The host is very friendly and we would recommend it to others.

Mrs B was very hospitable. The accommodation was clean and comfortable for a stop over. Would have been nice to have a breakfast offered. We went to the local hotel for a drink and supper. People are very friendly and the supper was good.

Ashtree Guest house was our home away from home. Mr and Mrs Van Heerden is extremely friendly and very accommodating. Our room was beautiful and clean as well as warm. We totally fell in love with our bedding and bed. Everything was cozy. I enjoyed long chats with Mrs Van Heerden, the talking bird was a bonus. My husband and I will go back there anytime. We were close to the shop, atm and many yummy eating places.

The Guest House is comfortable, pleasant and somewhat quaint. We received a warm welcome and lovely attention. Over the road is an excellent pizza restaurant and bar, a surprise to find in so small a town. It was very cold, but we slept warmly.

The room and interior was very clean and modern. The couple (owners) were friendly and we had a nice chat - their house felt like home. Only one suggestion if I may - we would have loved a nice cup of coffee and maybe a rusk at arrival after a long journey. There were a tray with coffee for the next morning but only enough for one serving each, so we could not use that - fresh milk would also have been much nicer than powdered milk.
If I hear of anybody looking for overnight in Hanover I can honestly suggest Ashtree Guesthouse

AshTree was an oasis in the middle of nowhere. My husband and I enjoyed our overnight stay there. The rooms where clean and homely. Sure to stop over there on our way to the Western Cape. Thanks Baby for your hospitality.

This is a convenient and comfortable stopover; especially if one wants to recommence a journey a bit earlier and dont need breakfast.

Mr & Mrs van Heerden went out of their way to ensure our comfort. The rooms were clean, bedding and towels freshly laundered and the Guesthouse tastefully furnished. They recommended that we go to Papa Luigis Pizza across the road for supper - best pizza we ever ate! We slept undisturbed in this peaceful haven & Mrs van Heerden got up very early so we could continue our journey. We highly recommend Ashtree Guesthouse.

My husband and I had such a pleasant overnight stay at Ash Tree Guest House on 09 December 2012. We stayed in the double room with lovely white linen and en suite bathroom with shower with clean white towels and clean amenities. We can recommend Ash Tree Guest House to every one. Thank you Baby and Danie for creating a lovely overnight facility en route to the Cape (and back home).

The guesthouse is neat with clean facilities. Fantastic personalized service and great food. It has very accommodating and generous hosts.

The bathroom was dusty and in front of the bathroom window was a noisy crackling piece of paper?The bed made a creaking noise at every little movement, with the result that one couldn't sleep and we got up at 4h00 and left at 5h00.We will not recommend this place and neither will we stay there again.

Establishment's response

As with all my other guests I went out of my way to make Frikkie and Desiree vanTonder feel welcome and relaxed. While I welcomed them at the car, we talked about the bad wind and dust storm that specific day , it only started raining that night. I got them settled and then gave them my card with my cell number and told them to please phone me should they need or want or discuss anything. (That is if I am not at my desk at reception) We stay on the premises across the courtyard and I am usually in the guesthouse or busy on the computer at reception, most times till 11 o clock at night. They went to their room early and had ample time to discuss any needs with me. Mr van Tonder told me about the bed the next morning and said that he was not upset, but there is a note behind the door asking my guests for comments, remarks and recommendations and are mentioning this to me because of that. I told him I am glad as we were away for more than a month, and the person in charge did not mention anything to me about the bed. We replaced the bed that very day.We painted the bathroom walls above the tiles as well as the ceiling the previous week and everything in the window ( a dry arrangement with pottery pots etc.) was removed, washed and replaced. I replaced the curtain. A piece of cellophane paper, in the dry arrangement, was making a noise which we also did not notice. Mr van Tonder was very friendly and even gave us a blessing before he left. I was very surprised and shocked when I received such a harsh review. I Phoned Mr van Tonder and I was told that his wife was not part of our conversation and they decided to send the review because people gets "swindled" out of their money.And that seems to me to be the real reason. They paid a reasonable tariff. Oh yes and he told me they are sleeping on a R15,000 bed and are having problems with that.....Need I say more!Most of the comments in my guest-book (which I can send you a copy of) mentions "Baie lekker nag-rus" "I Felt like beign at home" " Wonderful stay, home from home" "Lovely Hosts" "Not a stop-over but an Oasis" "Service is beyond hospitality" etc.

As the title indicates, I spent a very comfortable evening at Ashtree, Hanover. The welcome was warm and friendly - helpful too (as the dog had to be locked up a second time when I needed to return to get something from the car). The room was spotless and I appreciated the electric blanket \just in case\"! The restaurant next door was easily accessed and the owners were easy and friendly. I will recommend this accommodation to anyone wanting an overnight stay in Hanover."

Just what the exhausted late arrival overnight traveller needs! I.e. a friendly patient welcome; with excellent warm beds; a piping hot shower and excellent breakfast prepared personally by the owner. I was well slept; well fed and ready for the rest of the journey to Cape Town. I highly recommend it as an economical overnight halfway stop between Johannesburg- Cape Town- Johannesburg. It is also very convenient in terms of access from the N1 which after a long day is also great.

On approaching the town one is worried about your decision to stay at Ash Tree, but don't let external appearances fool you. Whilst the town appears to be a ghost town it is indeed charming with lovely warm people. We were welcomed by gracious hosts who went out of their way to ensure we were comfortable and had a super breakfast before our departure the next morning. The small pub next door provided our dinner which was freshly prepared and delicious. We wish Ash Tree all the very best!

Totally enjoyed my stay at the AshTree Guest House, the management gave full attention to my requests and they were friendly and made me feel at home. The place is safe, clean and comfortable.

I went there to get some rest and that was exactly what I got. The owner is very friendly and she made us feel at home and that lady can cook.

I would like to inform you that the stay over at Ashtree B&B was the most awesome time. The place was so relaxed, neat, family friendly and very safe. It felt like we have known the owners for years. We drove from Johannesburg and were tired after an early start and prior stress. We welcomed the break and found AshTree welcoming. Mrs van Heerden, and her son produced at very short notice supper it was truly great, only the Aafrikaaner can cook like that, so if your English speaking or a visitor to our great country go and taste ,perhaps giving her a bit of notice will make it tastier. The place is not the greatest but it spotless where it counts and the family is warm and welcoming.

We were heart-warmingly welcomed . The stay was excellent . We enjoyed the chat with the owner and it was interesting to hear what was going on in the small town. The room was very clean. We were very well received we were served with an excellent meal within two hours of arrival. The breakfast was also very good and tasty.

This guest house in Hanover is a real gem, lovely rooms and huge luxurious bathrooms. It is very secure and comfortable. My two children slept in the art gallery - a huge old barn, full of strange creaks, with bats in the belfry, but a wonderful experience for two city kids.

The AshTree proprietors really enjoy meeting people and far from having a dorp perspective, had very cosmopolitan views on the world.

Danie was a good host and saw that we were made comfortable. Breakfast consisted of cereals, choice of yoghurts, fruit juice, toast and a selection of jams and tea or coffee to follow. Bathroom could have been bigger, but as a generality the room was very comfortable for the one night we stayed there.

The facilities and the service provided at Ashtree Guest House were top class. The service provided by Mrs. Van Heerden and her son were outstanding. I will be more than happy to recommend Ashtree Guest House to my friends for a stay over at Hanover.

This was an ideal stopping point for us between KZN & Cape Town the people were incredibly helpful & very pleasant & our bed & room extremely comfortable affording us an excellent night's sleep.

What a wonderful stay we enjoyed with Mrs van H! We were a large group of 8 persons, but warmly welcomed. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. Clean towels and hot showers. Home from home atmosphere. Definitely recommended! We will visit again as it is a convenient half way stop to Cape.

We stopped over for the night on the 16th December and found our room very comfortable and clean. Mrs van Heerden was very friendly and served us a delicious macaroni cheese and salad for supper. It was just what we felt like. Hanover is ideally situated midway between Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Hanover was a pleasant surprise for us, the hospitality was friendly, the accommodation great, value for money. Above all a walk in the town was historic, quaint and the historic NG Kerk a beautiful piece of architecture!

After a full day of driving, there is nothing more rewarding than to be able to enjoy a relaxing evening in a home from home style guest house and a great home cooked meal / breakfast. Hanover is often seen as just a fuel stop on the N1; however it is much, much more. After a long drive firstly from Midrand in Gauteng and again from the Cape West Coast, I found the accommodation most comfortable, quiet and reasonably priced. I can thoroughly recommend Ashtree Guest House as a midway stop between Cape Town and Johannesburg / Pretoria. Looking forward to my next visit already!

From my arrival I was welcomed with great warmth at this family-run B&B. The accommodation was lovely and although I hadn't requested supper, a hot, home-cooked meal was made available to me. A full breakfast was also prepared for me. The diningroom is stylish and there is a large comfortable TV lounge. The rates are very reasonable and I have no hesitation in recommending this B&B.

A really comfortable, quiet and friendly alternative to staying over at Colesberg on the way to the Cape

We enjoyed a very comfortable overnight at Ashtree, on the trip from Johannesburg to Cape Town. Good, clean accommodation, a good nights sleep and very friendly hosts. Our traditional Karoo dinner was just part of the hospitality. We were waved off at 6.00 the next morning refreshed.

We had a lovely stay at Ashtree, both Baby and her husband went out of their way to make us welcome. Lovely rooms and a huge lounge all to ourselves. Great for a halfway stop between Cape Town and Johannesburg.

We stayed overnight on the 13th as well as 23rd of December and were amazed by the friendliness, helpfulness and homely atmosphere at Ashtree Guesthouse. Although we only just met Susan, Baby and Danie for the first time it was like seeing long lost best friends. The guest house itself is very homely and comfortable but the people are the best part for sure. The food is excellent home cooked truly South African flair and the service very personal. We did not have time to explore the small town of Hanover but hope to be able to do so when we are there for our next visit. We can honestly recommend Ashtree Guesthouse to anybody who wants to experience true South African hospitality and food. Well done to Susan, Tannie Baby and Oom Danie.

The welcome was warm and friendly. The rooms are very comfortable and the establishment is spacious with lots of interesting extras. The coffee shop and the gallery are a delight.
Suzann made me the most delicious dinner and because it was quiet, shared the meal with me and provided lively and interesting conversation.
I would definitely recommend the accommodation to anyone who needed a stopover and wanted to be sure of a friendly, comfortable environment.
