06 July 2010 Room was quite nice, very small bathroom.
Breakfast with very friendly service, but the quality of the breakfast itself should be better...
In general an old guesthouse, which was not worth the expensive price during FIFA World cup!

19 April 2010 I have stayed in a lot of hotels, hostels and guesthouses in my day and can say without exaggeration that Collosseum is a very special place. One could not hope to meet a more welcoming, hospitable and helpful host than Van Zyl, the guesthouse manager. Time after time he went above and beyond the call of duty to make me feel at home, to take care of my every need and even to show me the sights of Bloemfontein. I was picked up from the bus station free of charge when my 3-hour delayed bus finally arrived at well past midnight and was taken to a safe, spacious, tastefully decorated room with a luxurious bathroom, bar fridge and microwave, television, wireless internet, and a very inviting queen sized bed. I opened the fridge to find it stocked with juice, milk and all the basic necessities for breakfast and an early start the next day. There is also a central kitchen, patio and sitting area for everyone to use (though as I was the only guest, I had all this to myself). Since I was travelling by myself and was a foreigner to South Africa I think Van Zyl made an extra effort to make me feel at home. I didn't have a car and had planned to walk to the university archives each day--my reason for being in Bloemfontein--but Van Zyl offered to drive me and always took the scenic route to show me the sights on the way (which he knew I was interested in as I had mentioned them the previous day). Van Zyl also drove me to the nearby mall in the evening so that I could buy food and soak in the atmosphere of the "waterfront"; as someone nervous about renting my own car and completely new to the city I can't say how much I appreciated this.
If you are in Bloemfontein for whatever reason, stay at Collosseum guest house! The only minor potential drawbacks (no pool and it is much too classy a place to have that backpackers-style 'party atmosphere', if that is what you are looking for) are made up for a thousand times over by the host, who exudes hospitality in every way imaginable. I should add that if you are coming to Bloemfontein for the world cup, this is a wonderful location for the Free State stadium and you will be very happy you chose Collosseum. I think it is quite obvious that I honestly can't say enough positives things about this guesthouse!
